Today is the Day

Monday, July 08, 2019

My DH is preparing for his surgery later today. We have about an hour before we need to leave home. I have to admit, I'm a bit anxious about all this. But yesterday we learned that my step-son will be at the hospital with me and he is bringing our two grandsons - so the wait time won't be boring!

I have every confidence that this fairly minor surgery will resolve the problem and life will begin to go back to normal - although I'm not really sure what normal is anymore. So I suppose we will have to redefine our lives. I am hopeful that DH will be spending more time in his art studio downstairs so I can have my space upstairs back. While I have enjoyed his company, it's been a challenge for me to do the things I normally do with him spending so much of his day in the living room watching Hallmark movies or some of the things he's taped (I know that term dates me).

Our 5% Summer Challenge began on Saturday and at least over the weekend I was able to get in my 120 minutes of exercise. Yesterday morning Daisy and I finally got in a 2 mile walk. Today only a mile and I have no idea what the rest of today will bring. I expect there will be some walking just to keep the boys entertained but there will also be a lot of sitting and waiting.

My dear son will be over mid-day to mow the lawn and play with Daisy. My neighbor has a key and she watches her grandchildren on Monday & Tuesday so they will also be checking in with Daisy and playing with her. Apparently they really want Daisy to have a sleep-over with them but I expect I will be home around dinner time or early evening.

Thank you all for your wonderful support during these past three months. I appreciate each and every one of you and also thanks for listening this morning - I feel a bit more calm! Wishing you all a great day.

Kathy you have taken this challenge with your DH as you take all other challenges in your life. Face forward and with great confidence that you can handle anything life throws at you.

I pray that the surgery helps Tom be more comfortable and that he will improve daily.

In the meantime do remember that you are important to take care of also. You know that exercise and good food help you feel healthy and that will enable you to weather the storm.

You can't lose sight of what you need to make your life happy and I know taking care of yourself and nurturing your own happiness is key to that!

Big, big hugs my dear friend! emoticon

I hope everything went well with his surgery. It is difficult trying to find that "new normal" when things change. After two years, we're still trying to find a normal. emoticon

How did it go?? So glad you had support there. Wishing him a speedy recovery!

But Daisy would probably LOVE a sleepover with kids. Or she'd prefer the quiet of home.
Hoping all went smoothly and all are resting comfortably.

    Prayers that all goes well.

This statement of yours caused a smile: "it's been a challenge for me to do the things I normally do with him spending so much of his day in the living room watching Hallmark movies or some of the things he's taped (I know that term dates me). " I still say "taped", too. It also reminded me of when my DH was still on active duty. When he was I home ported, he would come home every day for lunch that took a huge chunk of my day. With 5 kids, I needed that chunk. I would tell him that I married him for better or worse, but not for lunch. emoticon

It wonderful that you have family with you. Again, prayers that all goes well. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Kathy, I pray that your husband's surgery goes well, and that your life gets back to normal, AND that you get your space back. Too much togetherness can take its toll, no matter how much you love someone. It's wonderful you have support from your family and neighbors! And Daisy is popular! Take care, and keep us posted.

I will be sending healing thoughts to you and to your husband over the next few days. That's very thoughtful of your sons to be there for you and to help out. (My DH had prostate surgery in January, and we are fortunate and blessed that life did return to our normal.) It sounds as if Daisy will be getting a lot of love while you're away from home, and please remember to take care of yourself.
