Guld Beach Half Marathon & Other Things

Friday, September 20, 2019

Hello there Spark People! How are you all? I've been pretty fantastic! Let's jump into things...

I am fully recovered from that awful bronchitis I had! Yay! I think it happened from mowing the lawn (dust + allergies + asthma). I have avoided yard work since much to the hubby's disappointment. The coughing is basically all gone and the allergies are waning as well. I am still using my inhaler occasionally, usually before bed, just to help things out.

Speaking of which, I ran the Guld Beach half marathon last weekend and didn't cough once! It was in Connecticut near a friend's new apartment (she used to live in Philadelphia near me). It was a nice weekend with friends and we had a great time. The half marathon was rough though. Being hurt for all of May/June and then sick in July, I didn't train much at all. We finished in about 3 hours and 32 minutes, but we finished! I am really disappointed though because I was hoping for around 3 hours. The views were gorgeous though and it was a cute little local thing. I would run it again!

In related news, I have another half marathon in a week! I know, I am crazy. It is the 10th anniversary of the Ocean City (NJ) Half Marathon so how could I say no?! The same friend (Emily) is coming to run it with me. They are giving 10th anniversary JACKETS for this race. I am pretty excited. It used to be part of the 50 half marathon club thing (where you run in every state) and had a 4 hour time limit but it looks like this year, they dropped that, are now USATF certified (which is cool if you are like competitive and stuff), and the time limit is around 3:30 so I really hope to make the 10 mile cut off (they say there is a 16 minute mile "van" that will tell you to turn around if they pass you). On the bright side, there is a 10 mile race so you would just finished that one instead I guess. But it would still be really sad. But that isn't going to happen! I'm gonna finish! (I'll blog about it, lol)

I still haven't done anything really much to my diet. I am trying to be more conscious of my food choices. It always seems to boil down to one major thing though - I don't pack enough food for lunch/work and I hit the candy/snacks. But I also have a hard time eating a large lunch (hellooooo afternoon nap time). Trying to find that balance. I've been packing a yogurt for an afternoon snack to help with boosting my meal but something I can eat separately (Chobani low Sugar yogurts - they are great!).

Well, I think that is all I feel like talking about today. Work has been crazy, home life has been crazy. We're busy like every weekend from now until December! Actually, this weekend is free so I'm looking forward to doing some house projects which its nice out!

I flip flop between fall and summer. I love the beach and water but I really love the cool crisp fall air. But I am in no rush to hurry fall. It starts on Monday people! 2 more days of summer!

3-1/2 hours on little training doesn't sound half bad!!! As for seasons, definitely fall. Sadly, we're still a good month away from that here in California, LOL!
