Things I Miss Since joining SP 11 years ago

Tuesday, October 08, 2019

I just realized that it has been over 8 years since I last wrote a blog and 11 years last month since I joined SparkPeople! That got me thinking about the changes that have taken place over those years in my life and here on SparkPeople. I admit I miss parts of my "old" life and the "old" SP.

When I first joined SP back in September 2008 I was desperate. I had never been successful with weight loss. I never had the support from others who truly understood my struggles, my Mom always tried but she was never obese. Then I found SparkPeople after searching on the internet. Here I found the support and help that I had longed for and needed. Teams were active on the message boards. Cheering one another on, sharing what they had learned, and truly caring about one another.

Here are the things I miss:
emoticon My precious Mom- she passed away in June 2015 and life has not been the same with out her.
emoticonMy dh's grandmother, she may have been his grandmother but she loved me like her own and I felt the same.
emoticonMy dfil- he was "officially" diagnosed with cancer days before my mom passed and he lost his battle 16 months later
emoticon My kids being little and not knowing the hurt and pain of losing a loved one; my ds is almost 14 and dd is 9. Don't get me wrong I love this stage, too. They can do so many helpful things and sometimes even with good attitudes! emoticon
emoticon My house with less stuff in it! HOW DID SO MUCH STUFF GET IN HERE?!?!
emoticon Not being diabetic. I was diagnosed in June of this year. Doing well, but it's hard at times. I hate taking meds.

The things I miss about SparkPeople:
emoticon I miss my MIA SP Friends! I made some great friends over the years but a lot of them are no longer sparking.
emoticon The community and support I found on my teams back then. It may not be all teams but the ones I am on barely have members that post anything. It was the support and help that I gained from SP that kept me going and kept me sparking. I know people are busy and the SP app makes it nearly impossible to get to your SP Teams (at least I haven't figured it out) and on the computer it takes more effort to get to your teams than it did previously. I do not know why that is but I am sure that does not help.

I am not trying to be a Debbie-downer; although clearly I have a knack for it. emoticon Seriously, though, I am thankful for all the things listed here that I miss because I had them and they were good; that's why they are missed. God blessed me with wonderful family and friends to be a help and encouragement right when I needed it. As a believer in Jesus, I can attest to the fact that He is faithful, an ever-present help in times of trouble, and the God of all comfort. And I wanted to share to see if you miss the "old" SP or if you still have active teams that cheer you on. We are trying re-create that atmosphere on the team I co-lead (Christians w/100 lbs to lose) but it is slow-going.
