Kind of hurt my arm trying to lug a box up the stair to the bedroom where the new dresser was going. It's a few hours later, a time filled with plenty of screwdriver use, and the bicep is no longer whining, so crisis averted. I went around the other problem by opening the box and taking the pieces upstairs a few at a time. I just wasn't going to be able to carry that box up those stairs, and sometimes you just have to give in to reality, y'know?
The item I ended up getting was indeed the on sale for ~80ish bucks dresser, with the flimsy cardboard drawer bottom that finally did in the 10 year old dresser it's replacing. This item does seem to be of a bit better quality, if judging by the types of fasteners holding the drawers together, and clasping the sides of the dresser to the panels of the back. So here's hoping this will last at least those ten years, and maybe a few more beyond.
In any case, my socks and underwears are probably glad to be sprung from the cardboard box they've been living in the last couple of weeks, and happy to be inhaling the new pine (?) smells of their new home. I'd be enjoying that scent too, but moving the old dresser in, vacuuming the corners out for the first time in forever, and moving some other stuff around has kicked up some dirt, and made me sniffly. Maybe I'll get a whiff when the dust settles and my allergies calm down.
