Another Catch Up

I have to admit I spend more time on Facebook than any other internet activity. But since I've come back from Peru, I have been trying to get back into a good exercise routine. And with a little help from my friend Carol, I am achieving that. We've been friends since 9th grade. For some years we were less in touch, due to location (pre-social-media). But for the last couple of decades, and even more since my 1st husband passed away, we've been drawing closer, and I have to say, on THIS continent, she' my best friend. Anyway, while I was away over the summer, she was having work done or her house, and she ended up having to sit a lot so she wouldn't be in the way of the workers. Well, that did not do her health any good. So when I returned, we talked about doing something together. She already had membership at a local Jewish community center, to take advantage of the pool. She just hadn't been able to get there (she no longer drives.) So, I figured I'd join as well - and she even treated me to a bathing suit (something I have not had for AGES.) She came along with me to help choose it, "like a mother'" she said, to make sure it looked good on me. On my initial trip with her I went as a guest, but decided to go through the tour before going to the pool since I DID plan to join. Since then, we have been going 3 times a week. I have been taking advantage of the exercise equipment - weight machines for my arms and legs, sometimes the stationary bike - before getting in the pool. And I do a full shower afterwards right there at the center, so I figure I'm saving on my OWN water bill. (ALTHOUGH...I run my suit thru the washer to get the chemicals out, so I guess it kind of cancels that out...) Anyway, it's mutually beneficial. I need HER to give me the INCENTIVE to go - "Carol has to get there because if she doesn't, she really goes downhill." If I didn't "have" to take HER, I'd probably just go right home from work and veg out. And SHE doesn't wimp out because she knows *I* have to go. And it is definitely more enjoyable with each other's company. Granted I'm not with her the 1st half hour or so, cuz she goes directly to the pool. But we're together ENOUGH, spurring one another on. I DID discover, to my delight, in the pool that I have a rather good range of motion. It's just that I need to build up my strength. And I've been feeling it in the muscles I've worked! And BOY, do I sleep well on the nights when we've worked out! AND - I even lost 5 pounds since we started last month!
