Guess I have to accept it!

Thursday, November 14, 2019

Hello dear Spark Friends. I've been MIA for awhile. I just don't know where the time goes. Every day I have so many "to do's" on my Spark Coach and most days there are boxes left unchecked. What I love about this, however, is that I can add tasks to repeat like once a week, or every Tuesday and Thursday, or even certain tasks that I want to do every day. This helps me immensely to remember things. I've even started adding "Call _____" if I have something important to ask or a birthday wish to make. Before I started adding these types of important reminders, I have found myself getting to the end of the day and then realizing that it's just too late!

Well, it seems winter has arrived and a bit early for my liking. Daisy and I were unable to walk on Monday & Tuesday, the wind chill was just too cold. Yesterday once the snow stopped we went out and it was really hard for me because the roads were already icy. So today I was prepared. It took me 15 minutes to get ready while Daisy looked on patiently. First my socks so my long underwear can go over them. After the long underwear, the knee brace. My real knee has been giving me a lot of trouble ever since my husband was ill and I neglected my own needs. My fault entirely, there were plenty of times that I could have done a workout! Then I took the inserts OUT of my boots - my planter fascitis has reared it's ugly head. Yesterday's walk was very painful, today's was better. I put the ice cleats on the bottoms of my boots next, and then put them on and laced them up.

Daisy is easy - she just needs to put her head through the harness. Now it's time for the upper body. The sweatshirt with the hood and holes in the sleeves for my thumbs. The jacket next. Make sure I have treats in the pockets. Put on my gloves over the sweatshirt sleeves and finally my hat. Seriously, the getting ready part is almost as long as the walk. But today's walk was much better. The sun is shining and that always makes things nicer. The wind was strong though so we took the short loop which used to take 25 - 28 minutes depending on how much Daisy has to stop and smell. Today's walk took 34 minutes! But we walked and she is now resting happily.

In October we went out to Roanoke to visit my daughter's family. My grandchildren have grown up so much since I saw them a year ago. We have made this drive many times over the last 13 years - it usually takes us between 20 & 21 hours total (which includes the time change). This time it took 24 hours - there was road construction EVERYWHERE. A few times the lanes were so tight that Tom had to drive over the rumble strips which totally scared little Daisy. Every time it happened she crawled into the front seat to sit in my lap, shaking like crazy. Thankfully the drive back was a Sunday/Monday and the road construction was a whole lot less.

Here are some photos of my family:

Faith will be 13 in a month - hard to believe!

Jamie who is 6 loved playing with Daisy. The two boys were waiting for us each day as we arrived and spent so much of their days playing with Daisy.

Reese who just turned 9 was also a big fan of Daisy. In this photo she's a bit worn out because she didn't get her usual 12 naps in each day.

We visited the Roanoke Star - been to Roanoke at least a dozen times but never went to the main attraction.

The whole family - Rachelle & Dan with the three kiddos

And just because I couldn't resist, here is little Jake the day I was taking care of him. He does love his cereal!

I hope each and every one of you is having a great day today! I'm off to have lunch.

HOLY cow...how did I miss this blog Kathy? We chat so often I'm amazed I missed it! LOVE every one of the pictures...Faith is turning into such a beauty and the boys are so cute. I had to chuckle when I say the pic of little Jake...such a happy little chappie!

Wow...what a marathon getting ready to walk. That takes some REAL determination to get out there...but you DO it...so YAY you! And a big hug and kiss to little Daisy Doodle for inspiring you to get out there to make her happy!

I always feel guilty when I SO look forward to winter because it's FINALLY cooler down here. I think of all my friends battling the elements up North and braving the winter and I just want to fly you all down here to be snowbirdies! If I ever hit the lotto...that just might happen...we can dream can't we? emoticon

Beautiful family pictures. They do grow up so quickly happy to hear you were able to enjoy and spend time with them. Daisy was probably so confused but she looks great in the pictures. Little Jake looks so precious and big. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing your family with us. Totally adorable kiddos and, of course, Daisy. Your getting ready to walk sounds like a full day workout to me, then walking in the snow and ice - makes me cold just thinking about it. It's been cold here this week but nothing like that. emoticon

Glad you got to visit with your family and see those beautiful grandchildren. Great that you and Daisy are able to get outside for walks even though the "getting ready" is such a task. I'm sure they were worth the effort! emoticon

These are great pictures Kathy! The grands are darling. Wow, it takes a long time to get ready for that walk. More power to you. Be careful with that knee... Poor Daisy, yes I can understand she got scared with the rumble strips.

Wow, that's a long drive, Kathy, about as long as it takes me to travel to my home state of Georgia all the way from Japan. It must have been pretty exhausting! I'm glad you arrived safely and had such a good time with your grandchildren in Roanoke. They are truly lovely, and it looks like they had a lot of fun playing with Daisy.

Your description of going outside to walk in the cold reminded me of when my older two were toddlers and we lived for a while in Massachusetts. I would start dressing them and putting on their boots, gloves, hats, and all that, and then my husband would pass by the front door where we were still getting ready and say, "You're still HERE?!" It was a long process.

I hope you find a way to lessen your knee pain. I still vividly remember your knee replacement surgery and long recovery. It must be a little daunting to think you might have to do it again, but whatever happens, I just hope you find a way to stay as young and active as you are now.

Love the pictures of the grandchildren, they all look so beautiful. So nice you got to go and visit them. Poor Daisy, she just didn't like the road construction noises, who can blame her don't care for the load noises made while going through those zones. Lucky for Daisy you were right there in the front seat for her to get comfort from the noises.
Aw, I remember so well the bundling up to be able to go out in the cold winter days, I do not miss that at all. We are having somewhat of a cold spell here in south Texas since Tuesday. Monday was beautiful and 85 degrees. Monday night it started raining, the temp started dropping and was 36 degrees Tuesday moring and only went up 2 degrees that day. With rain and wind it has been very chilly lately. Today got up to 60 but with the wind and clouds it still feel to cold out.
Glad you were able to go for a walk today with Daisy.

That is about theonly thing I hate about winter, is the getting ready to go, once I am out I don't mind being out there at all. I enjoy the snap in the air, and the crunch of the snow. I really prefer the snow to the heat and humidity. Am I weird or what?

You are here now and that's what counts. What a lovely family. It's wonderful that you were able to spend time with them. (There's never enough time...for anything. emoticon )

Jake is such a sweetie! He's getting so big. He's losing his baby looks and now looks more like a toddler. That doesn't sound right, but I think you get my meaning.

Looks like we're in for another long winter. Take care of yourself. TERRACOTTAGE has a good idea.

Do you include dressing to go for your walk as part of your work out? I was shattered by the time you got to the hat.

Sorry the trip there took longer, and roads scared Daisy. At least coming back was better. Adorable family. Looks like a wonderful visit!
