Years ago I lost 50 pounds on Atkins and just as I was getting used to being thinner my daughter had a stroke. Of course, I went to take care of her (she is fine now) but, in the process of my attention being focused on her, I fell back into my old southern style habits of eating and gained the 50 pounds back and then some.
Ok, I said all that to say this. I just started the Ketogenic diet last Sat.10/26/19 and yes it is like Atkins in that it is Low Carbs so, it was probably easier for me to adapt to the idea of cutting out STARCHES & SUGARS.
Once I made up my mind to do this I went to my kitchen and through away my bread, potatoes, rice, pasta and anything that was high in carbs (I could do this because it's just my husband and me). Don't worry I kept the things he really likes and he's fine with it. Then I made my list of allowed meats, veggies and condiments and off to the grocery store I went.
When I did Atkins I didn't know anything about diabetes, as far as I knew I didn't have it back then 1996/97. I did try several times to go back to doing Atkins over the years but, my mind or body just was not ready or willing to do what I wanted. I "KNOW" LOW CARB works so I started doing research and found Dr. Berg talking about Keto and Intermittent Fasting on YouTube. It was just what I needed to get me to do Low Carb again but healthier.

I stopped taking my BS meds a year ago. So I'm super glad I've found what works for my body. I can't wait to see my Doctor in Dec.!!!
How do you feel about growing older?
Oh! I thought your age was just a number. I Love may sliver hair and how everyone is so attentive to me when I'm about to climb a ladder or lift anything over 10 pounds. Seriously though, I feel fine about it now. I didn't a few months ago.
On Sun., Oct 27, 2019, I made up my mind to take charge of my lifestyle. First I Stopped eating Sugar to get my blood sugar down from 250/300 range and that only took 10 days to get it down to 100. Plus, my blood pressure has come down too. I had already stopped smoking two years ago on Nov. 10, 2017.
I have lots more energy and my mood has lifted tremendously since I started eating 4 to 8 cups of greens a day and No Sugar at all including starches and reading labels to cut out hidden sugars. I feel 15 YEARS YOUNGER.!.!.!
After~10/26/19 ~ No More Sugar ~ These are some of my changes.
(1) So far, my morning readings of Blood Sugar have dropped from 250 range to the normal range of 100.
(2) I am losing again.
(3) I'm getting out of chairs easier and walking faster.
(4) My left knee has stopped hurting.
(5) I don't need to urinate near as often.
(6) My belly Is NOT bloated anymore.
(7) I'm sleeping so much better too.
