Preparing for Thanksgiving....

Tuesday, November 26, 2019

Here I am, up way past my bedtime. Sometimes I just can't sleep, so I figured I'd type until I get tired.

Funny how we say we're preparing for Thanksgiving - I'm thankful and grateful every day! What I'm preparing for is to create an awesome dinner and enjoy the day with my son!

So, the 14 lb turkey is in the 'fridge, thawing, and tomorrow, I'll shop for a few things that I need for the meal. Today, I prepared the dough for my pies - It's chilling in 'fridge along side the turkey, and I baked my bread for stuffing and dressing. Wednesday, I'll make pies.

The yeast bread I make for stuffing is a really simple one. The dough is made and spread evenly over parchment paper on a half sheet, allowed to rise for 20 minutes, and baked for 30 minutes. It's full of sage, garlic, and onion, and if baked as a loaf, will create a savory bread. After the bread cools (since it was in the 60's today, I put it on a rack on my patio), it's cut into cubes and allowed to become stale/dry. This is the basis of my stuffing and dressing.

It was absolutely lovely today, and I spent time in the garden and patio in between my kitchen projects. First thing this morning, I collected more cucumbers and started another large jar of pickles, and picked some leaves off of the broccoli, collards and kale for my girls. They come running whenever they hear my car pull in the garage or whenever I open the patio door. LOL, when I come in from shopping, they jump up on the roof of their coop and hop onto my kitchen window sill, and make a racket, letting me know that they want some attention and a taste of anything I care to bring out to them!

I love having my coffee or tea breaks on the patio, too. If I'm only having my coffee or tea, they just run up and talk to me. If I bring out biscuits or biscotti, oh my! Between the girls and the dogs, I might get a bite or two!

Well, my friends. The allergy pill I took a little while ago is making me sleepy - Maybe now I can actually fall asleep!

A heart full of gratitude a home full of all that is good .. you for sure are on my daily Thankful list .. I totally agree .. an attitude of gratitude and thanksgiving is something we should set our hearts and minds to every day .. it certainly chases away the negative and clears the clouds .

Oh those "girls" .. just a little bit spoiled .. ha ha
they know their momma treats them like royalty .. the fresh leaves and stems from the garden have to produce an egg that is second to none as far as nutrition and sunshine .. you give to them they give back in return .. I can't imagine your life without them now ... it seems like a lot of years ago you were fighting with the county to get permission to have 4 .. oh the joy and movies they have brought to your life .. too funny .. I can vision them peering in the kitchen window wondering what treat is in store for them ..

I truly love the loaf of bread ,, created just for stuffing the turkey .. Tradition and ritual have returned to your home .. bringing the peace and contentment that is so desperately missing in todays world ..

Your Thanksgiving Feast will be just that .. I would bet that someone appears that you will be so thankful to feed ...
I hope you had a long and restful sleep ..
now you are awake .. bright eyed and bushy tailed ..

time for music and coffee .. and my morning prayer
