No regrets: The Thanksgiving aftermath.

Hi everyone. I gained weight over Thanksgiving but I'm sure its mostly water retention. Lost 6 pounds in a short time. I'm not that far from where I left off which is a good thing. It all started when my mom came to visit. She's such a little thing and rarely eats much. She likes all you can eat restaurants and eats better there than anywhere else. Unfortunately, that is my downfall. Somehow there needs to be a compromise. However, I don't want to discourage her from eating.

After all that, my week was on a downhill slope. Fortunately, we went for walks in the cool mornings that we have had over the course of November and really enjoyed having company. Its nice to have a companion to talk with and spend time together. She is still very active and can outrun me. We choose walking over anything for which I am grateful. The walks were enjoyable and a welcome change.

I love her so much but was glad when I drove her home. She missed home ,however, we still had a good visit.

I think my dilemma is that when she visits me my formed habits fly out the window. She wants to go out to eat and doesn't like my cooking. I don't blame her as all the diet hype has left me a little uneducated in the cooking department. Sure, I'm great at cooking comfort foods that everyone loves. Remember? all that butter, cheese etc. Blec... hoping to reach new foundations for healthy cooking. Yeah, I have been watching videos, tutorials, and grocery store hauls!!! Just a matter of time.

Hopefully, the holidays will bring all of us blessings. Maybe we can even stay focused with all the foods available around the holidays. May joy reach you and your family and friends.

    Does your mom like to cook? Maybe she can share the cooking duties and give your tips when she is there.
    I like trying new recipes. It's a good way to learn. Lots of good tips online. Check them out and see what appeals to you.
    Overall, it is just one week. You will get back to doing what works for you and lose those pounds.
    So nice that you were able to walk together and enjoy the companionship.

    I liked what Warriorsue said. Personally, for me, I stick to what I know works for me...LCHF)....and neither he'll or high water came get me to change my mind.

    Glad you got time with your mom. Eating at buffets is a downfall for me as well. Today is a new day so you’ll make up for lost ground quickly I’m sure

    When I go to a buffet I will walk around at least once and take nothing. Decide what I want and how much, then take just that. This helps me slow down and think what do I really want to eat.

    When with others I remind myself before I go in or answer the door, focus on fun not food. This helped me lose 3 lbs during a 2 week Disney vacation. I constantly reminded myself to focus on fun not food.

    Wonderful to have a walking partner over the holidays!! That's a good habit! I got home after Thanksgiving dinner at a restaurant and slept for 2-3 hours on my couch.

    I think there are trigger foods and also, as much as we love them, there can be trigger people!
    If you look at the top right of your Sparkpage you will find lots of good, easy to prepare recipes.

    We all have challenges and trigger foods. Remember you are in this for the long haul. You can get to where you want to be, if you stick to your plan and get the support and encouragement you need.
