I think I can, I THINK I can, I KNOW I CAN

YES! You can do it. I'm living proof that we don't have to go on living in our pudgy bodies, we, too can be slim and trim! I have been on maintenance for the last four or five years, and the weight is still GONE!

Was it easy? I will be the first one to tell you it is NOT easy. But if you really want something, you can do it. You may feel deprived once in awhile, like when you see your friends pigging out of pizza or eating a delicious piece of pie ala mode. But truly, I will have to say that 98% of the time I did not feel deprived, or even hungry.

The first thing I gave up was sodas, diet or regular. Instead I drank water, tea or decaf coffee. It didn't take long before I didn't even miss them. It's still a challenge to me to drink my 64 oz. of plain water each day, but when I feel like I just can't drink another swallow of water, I work in the yard for 30 minutes or so; when I come in I can drink a whole glass of water easily.

And food is a funny thing. Your mind tells you to eat a burger and fries or onion rings. But you look at the 'favorites' on your food list and know you will not maintain or reach that goal by eating something delicious that you just saw on TV. Looking over your list of food favorites you see you could have a cup of mini-shredded wheat, a cup of Almond milk and half a banana sliced over it -- all for less than 300 calories. You'll be full and satisfied. You may not be a fan of Almond milk, but it's 30 calories compared to 90. Your choice.

Most important is exercise. I'm not saying you have to get up in the morning and run for two miles, but don't deceive yourselves by how active you are either. Get a Fitbit to track your steps and it will give you the nudge you need to get more steps in. Your dog will appreciate it also. Maybe he/she is a bit pudgy too!

Don't give yourself a change to fall off the wagon and pig out; just one evening per week, eat one of the meals you loved in the past. I guarantee as the months and years go by you will be surprised that suddenly your body doesn't even crave those foods any longer.

    I love shredded wheat cereal and almond milk... and I love how you make things sound so simple which half the time we make this journey more complicated than it really is. I will take your advice to heart. Thank you for sharing.

    Congrats and thank you for your words of wisdom. I too have given up soda mostly, and refined sugar in most things. Slow but steady.
