Been a long time!

Thursday, January 16, 2020

I haven't blogged for a long time... yikes.

Was diagnosed with osteoporosis last fall. I asked the doctor if I could see a physical therapist to line up a strength program for me. Just finished with PT last week and am happy how much stronger I am! Our hospital has a great program that I can use the gym equipment there for another 12 weeks at no cost. Now to fit my schedule in with the hours they are available.

Cate15 - sorry to hear that the Fosamax did not agree with you. I'm taking Boniva, which is a once a month medication. So far, I've tolerated it quite well. (except I don't like drinking a glass of plain water the first thing in the morning and then having to wait a full hour before I can have my coffee!!) I tried taking calcium supplement pills and those didn't agree with me. A pharmacist told me to buy generic Tums and take those a couple of times a day in addition to my daily vitamin. That is working for me.

My insurance company approved 8 PT sessions. Continued strength exercises will help stop more bone loss. Also, the better shape I'm in, the less likely I am to fall and have potential fractures. Hope you can get your doctor to set you up for PT.

I have been diagnosed with osteopenia (sp?) My doctor put me on Fosamax but I did not tolerate it well so I am no longer on it. I did not think of getting a script for PT specifically to build up bone. I am calling my doctor next week to see if I can be cleared for that. So glad you posted this.

I have osteoarthritis, and have just begun a PT program to assist with that. It is encouraging to hear that you are stronger and doing better!

BrendaGail9, I like to walk too! (Especially when the weather is good.) But I do need to do some weight, strengthening work too. The PT gave me some exercises to do at home, but I like to supplement that with the weight machines.
