The sleep challenge--week one, day one
Thursday, January 23, 2020
Funny thing to say when I have a child under the age of one in my house. But I really have noticed as my baby weight started climbing back up that my sleep habits weren't too good over the winter. I was the last one in the house to go to bed and with an infant that wakes up through the night that's not the best thing. It's no wonder I've had so little energy.
Over the past two weeks it has been different though. I've come to realize that I haven't been spending time reading my Bible as I should and since I keep both my daughters home and don't work my best option was earlier in the morning, rather than stay up late. That night I went to bed around 9 and woke up right after my husband went to work around 5:30. Immediately I made my normal breakfast of two eggs and 1/4 avocado with a cup of coffee blended with coconut oil and started reading.
My house is so much more peaceful in the morning while the girls are asleep. It's also just more relaxing to have the house to myself in the morning than in the evening. It really sets the tone for the whole day so the need to be up late watching the Big Bang Theory reruns "unwinding" has become pretty unnecessary.
Over the past two weeks my sleep has gotten better. I fall asleep faster and even when I wake up to feed Lila I still go back to sleep fairly easily. I'm also getting up earlier than I'm used to. 5:20-5:30 is my new usual wakeup time when before it was unlikely for me to get up before 9. I'm more productive (check out my laundry pile if you don't believe me!) and my temperament has been more calm and less fly-off-the-handle.
As for the daily diary recommended in the challenge, I'll be posting the first part of that later on this evening. The daily questions needed to answer are as follows:
What time did you wake up today?
What time are you lying down to go to sleep?
What, if any, was your bedtime routine?
