The Reckoning

Sunday, January 26, 2020

I went. I saw. I ate. And now I'm home. Thank you all for your kind thoughts and well-wishes upon the arrival of my newest Grandson. He's amazing. His hair reminds me of Woodstock's top feathers: The dining away from home went fairly well, though I know that without tracking, it's anyone's guess concerning how much I actually ate. Portion sizes were eye-balled. Nothing was measured or weighed. I adjusted....everything. The potato and egg breakfast burrito became eggs and potatoes with the tortilla thrown away. The 5-course take-out Thai dinner became 2-heaping-tablespoons-full of each of the dishes (which was likely too much food for one sitting). I looked for the vegetables first and hunted down the fruits. I found the hotels' fruit basket full of delectable, green, Granny Smith apples. They were fabulous. But desserts accompanied each of the dinners and I allowed tastes that were sometimes enlarged upon...to 2 tastes...to 2 very small brownies...to 2 small oatmeal-raisin cookies with a larger chocolate-chip cookie thrown in for good measure. It was all so very good. I ate slowly and mindfully, without binging, just to the point of starting to feel full and then stopped. Activity for the week was limited to a 30-minute slow-paced walk each day with the remainder filled with sitting and holding an amazing, cute-as-a-button bundle of life. The whole world stands still when you hold a baby. Time is suspended as you gaze into those wide-open eyes that seem to see everything, yet know nothing. This Sunday will be my usual day-off from tracking so I'll resume with the log on Monday. I'll have an official weigh-in on February 7th for my yearly physical exam. My battle to achieve a healthy BMI continues and is once again in sharp focus. We can do this!! Just one day at a time!!

Being mindful is the key, and also getting back on tracking after a lovely baby experience. Soon enough the baby will be running around and you'll be able to keep up the chase if you stay on track now!

There is nothing better than a new baby! It sounds like you had a lovely time and made healthy eating choices while you were at it, which is not easy to do! Congratulations on your new grandson. emoticon

It sounds like you considered your choices very well. When I am removed from my dietary routine, it throws off my cravings. I indulge in things I normally wouldn't be drawn to. But we try to use what we have learned to make the best choice available to us at the time.
