Goodbye January

Saturday, February 01, 2020

My overall phrase for January would be putting one foot in front of the other and just keep moving.

Work … I still feel like I am running to catch up and stay ahead.

Health … I was down with a nasty cold three weeks of the month, but finally lost my nasal voice this past week.

Family … Some things finally clicked.
I never understand why my parents still treat me like a kid even though I am 57. And then I saw myself treating my daughter that way (even though she’s 38.) I never understood why my mom sometimes tells me the same things over and over again. And then I saw myself trying to start up conversations with my daughter to keep us engaged each and every day, as we went about our daily busy-ness.

I lost my godfather/uncle this month. He and his wife (my Aunt Pat) have been some of the greatest spiritual examples and guides for me over my lifetime (other than my parents, of course.) What they demonstrated in their lives was letting God be part of every moment … not a compartment of their lives. When I greeted my aunt at the funeral and said how sorry I was, she said .. “I had him for 52 wonderful years. I can’t be more selfish than that. God was ready for him and he’s home now.” She added this on the back of the program for Mass …

One of his grand-daughters, Marie Claire, gave a eulogy – an amazing one at that. She talked about all the routines he had: The morning puzzles, the nightly tasty-kakes, the Summer vacations in Brigantine, the way he watched intently when any of the grandkids said “watch this” and the way he was impressed by each new demonstration. It was just such a perfect list of memories, a tribute to a life well-lived that will go on to be remembered in hearts and minds.

This year is Leap Year …
One extra day to do something intentional, make a connection, create a new memory.

Sorry about the loss of your uncle. I like your aunt Pats attitude and can see why you value her in your life. I can relate to your conversations with and as a mom. Sorry about the cold. And work..is work, right? Hope February brings great things and is off to a good start! emoticon

It sounds like your Godfather was a wonderful man. I'm sure you will miss him but know that he is happy where he is now. It's hard to believe that January is over already. Seems like it was just Christmas. I did not realize that this was leap year. What a surprise know we have an extra day. Have a Blessed Sunday.
