Reflecting and plans for February

Saturday, February 01, 2020

I have now been retired for a month and settling into a routine that could get too easy. I spent 5 nights visiting family it was lovely to be able to help with the grand children and take a little stress of their parents.

Apart from 2 days I have done at least 20 mins of intentional exercise every day I have followed Pahla B’s 31 day fitness videos plus walking each day I have managed my aim of 6000 daily steps but have not run x2 5k’s each week but have done my weekly 5k parkrun.
I have only lost 2lb but that’s ok.
I find I am eating more been retired and been with DH every day as he likes a cooked lunch as well as dinner but I am enjoying cooking and our relaxed time together. I have been poor at writing my meal plans but have tried a new recipe a week and had 2 weekly meat free days
I have read 3 books and been clearing out cupboards including 40 plus years of nursing books and paperwork. I have also managed to spend time clearing and working in the garden.

Aim for 20 miles weekly which is around 3 miles a day/6000 steps and to run 5k x2 week
Minimum of 20 intentional fitness minutes every day more if possible including some strength work. Just trying to get and keep a workable routing going that works for me. It is more about maintaining fitness and not losing strength that is what I am aiming for.

Continue to eat a reasonable diet with lots of fresh fruit and vegetables

however I need to monitor portion sizes as I know I underestimate how many calories in my portion.
I will write down meal plans at the week end for the following week with 2 meat free days and try a new recipe a week

It is Valentine’s day on the 14th we do nothing special but I will cook a nice steak dinner.

My twin Grandsons will be 2 on the 19th of February so we are travelling to see them and will stay in a nearby hotel for 5 nights so we get a little break too. However I think my DS would like us to help with some painting and decorating which could be fun and burn a few calories.

I will hopefully manage to read 3 more books

Also spend time gardening if the weather allows Spring flowers are starting to bud.

I have bought some seeds and plants including a blueberry bush which my cats were very interested in

This year February is also a leap year so we have an extra day to enjoy

Thanks for stopping by my blog.
Enjoy your retirement. It takes a while to get into a rhythm but treat it like your new job!

We have a few things in common. I retired from health care after 42 years. I'm finding my local gym is my new "job". I've 3 grands ages 3,6,9 to keep me busy on other days.
One of my son in laws is from West Sussex so I plan to return a favor and visit his parents this year. I hosted them last year for "American" Mother's Day.

    Good Luck.

Can't wait to retire. I would think the best thing to do is keep busy? I find when I'm bored, I eat too much.

Glad you could help with the grands. That is always special.
