What is it that motivates you? What keeps you going?

In the past the only thing that motivated me to exercise and diet was travel. For the past couple of months a new motivator has appeared: fear.

My family has a history of circulation problems.
I have three older brothers. Two of them are handicapped. The eldest takes care of them. He had open wounds in his legs from poor circulation a number of years ago and addressed those issues and is constantly monitoring them. Now the other two have the same issues. Very bad issues. Constant trips to the wound clinic, constant care. They can hardly walk.

For the past few years I've had red spots on my leg. This past year they have gotten bigger and darker. Since I know my family's genetic issues (although I was slow in putting two and two together), I am now addressing the poor circulation I've always had.

Changing to a heart healthy lifestyle. This past month has been all about how to choose heart healthy foods. It's a huge paradigm shift in my thinking. But, I believe I'm getting the hang of it. Doctor's appointment went well. Blood pressure normal, good choices on food, and as of this morning I've dropped 15lbs since Jan 1st. Now, the doctor says I need to add in a little more exercise.

I have two very physically active jobs. I work full time in retail where I'm constantly moving all over the store, sometimes up on tall ladders, sometimes practically lying on the floor, lots of bending, lifting, etc. Some days I put on as much as five miles just there. The other job is cleaning a large church. It feels like miles of sweeping and mopping, etc. That being said, I'm sometimes too worn out to do anything else at the end of the day.

So, i've decided to start small. For the past two days I've added in stretches in the morning. Today I added in 50 crunches, but I guess that was too much because I instantly got leg cramps when I stopped. (When I lived in CA I did 300 crunches a day and walked 5 miles.)

It's all about small steps...hmmm, theme? Small steps was Queen Elizabeth's Christmas message, the message from a pastor visiting from Australia, and the message of my prayer group last night.

I think I'm rambling. The point I thought I was making was that along with travel, fear has now become a motivator to take the small steps I need to achieve a heart healthy lifestyle. I refuse to live in fear, therefore the motivation to move forward.

But, of course there is travel in the plans too! A short trip to South Padre in May and in two years our second cruise!!!

Please do not let fear have motivation. In Isaiah we read in chapter 41 to not fear. God is our strength and He will be with you each step that you take. Live being motivated to let your actions bring you blessings. You are a motivator to others by eating well and losing 15 pounds. Keep Sparking!

That is a great new motivator. Glad you are thinking about your health, good job on the weight loss and blood pressure being normal. Yes small steps and I think you are doing a emoticon emoticon

Possible help in reducing cramps (leg) is to be sure to DRINK WATER, WATER, WATER..
keeping yourself well hydrated is an important component of a healthy life-style

I do expect you haves shared with your medical team your family history of circulation problems.

and FEAR is a viable motivator for sure.
