Exercising While Growing Old: A Manifesto
Tuesday, February 18, 2020
No matter what, I'm going to exercise.
As I grow older, my body is inevitably going to change and my exercise will have to adopt.
I'm going to do cardio.
If I can run, I'll run.
If I can't run, I'll walk.
If I can't walk, I'll crawl.
But, I AM going to do cardio.
I'm going to do strength training.
If I can lift weights and do bodyweight exercises, I'll do that.
If I can't lift weights, I'll use exercise bands.
If I can't use exercise bands, I'll just lift my limbs.
But, I AM going to do strength training.
I'm going to be physically active.
If I can walk and bike for transportation and recreation, I will.
If I can play pickleball, I will play.
If necessary, I'll will play less competitive games, but I will keep playing.
If necessary, I will play fewer times a day, fewer days a week, but I will keep playing.
If I need to change to a different, more "senior" sport, I will make the switch.
But, I AM going to be physically active and play sports.
I am going to dance.
If I can dance on my feet, I'll dance on my feet.
If I can't dance on my feet, I'll dance in a chair.
If I can't dance in a chair, I'll bop my head in bed.
But, I AM going to keep dancing.
I'll stop exercising one day.
That will be the day I leave this life.
But, until then, I will exercise.
