Collecting points

Saturday, February 22, 2020

So do you collect sparkpoints? Every day I log on to spark and check out a few favorite places - read the articles if they seem relevant - even the ones I've read before - I don't mind a re-read. I follow several blogs and often comment on them. post my own. And then then I hit the start page and see how many points I have.

And then I find myself doing Something Else if I don't have 25 points, just so I can spin the bonus wheel? I mean - what the ....?

I can't figure out why I do this - it can't possibly matter to me or to anyone else. Do I do it because it's there? And because it's fun to spin a dial. I'm not a gambler - I don't even buy lottery tickets - not even for the gift basket from the Fireman's Auxiliary. I just give them a $5 and say keep the tickets.

But I do it every day. Even when I am traveling. But that's just to be sure I get credit for logging in to Spark for that day. Because I have a goal to reach 2,000 days in a row - what does he call it? Chris Downey? A streak. Yeah. I want to streak into spark for 2K days.

But ... what a funny thing to want. And what a funny girl I am to want it.

Isn't it interesting how different we all are? I've spun the wheel a few times but then decided I didn't care about since I wasn't winning anything "real!" I have never paid attention to the SparkPoints and haven't looked at my total in ages.

The thing I care about is whether I make my weekly goal of calories burned through exercise. I used to count streaks for drinking 8 glasses of water and eating 5 freggies each day. Those were helpful at the beginning, but now I am so busy that I need to streamline everything. So I only track nutrition and exercise and spend very little time on anything else.

Except for my dear friends like you and their wonderful blogs, of course!

    I. Do. Too!
It is so silly but I do.
    Also, not a gambler.
I don’t stop until I have at least 100 points.
Right now I am approaching the half-million mark!

Funny how the combination of tracking and the artificiality of "points" makes us more compliant, eh? Gaming!

I have times when I work on it, and times when I just... don't... care... about the Spark points! emoticon

I am another point collector. Why? I am not sure why I do this every day but it keeps me amused and also accountable.
    Silly me....

Ditto! I was near a 1500 day login streak and lost it. So, started anew: 778 and counting.

Checking in here serves me. I appreciate the tools available and find the Spark Community supportive.

LOL! Yes, it's amazing how -- to some extent -- the points are motivating. I think, for me, it just keeps me connected where I need to be (here) for support if I spin the wheel -- it's a check in.

HUGS and have a great weekend.

I'm so pleased to know that those points work for someone!

I'm the opposite. They mean nothing to me! When I started, I did collect them. Well that's fine because they got me to do all the things that help so much when we first start on SP. But then I just lost interest and now I don't even look at them.

Perhaps it's partly because I now use a different app to record my food and a different one again to record my exercise. I did try linking them all up, but they did NOT play well together! So I wouldn't get many points a day here.

I mostly use SP these days to chat to lovely people like yourself!

Anyway, as funny habits go, yours isn't such a bad one. Anything that nudges us towards a healthier lifestyle has to be a good thing, right?

I usually get the points on my phone but hate how I have to go to computer to do bonus spin so I rarely do that. Wish they would put all that on the app!

OMG! I am totally addicted to points! I do the same routine although I don’t blog anymore. And, my Spark streak is sacred! I’m terrified that somehow i’ll lose it. Many years ago I had a very long streak and was excited to see how long I could go. Then, one terrible morning my streak was gone! I was beyond upset! I contacted Spark and it was a technical glitch which they didn’t seem to know how to fix and couldn’t get my streak back. As you can see, I’m still bitter! 😄

With you all the way! I check my goals each morning, spin the wheel, read some articles, check in on my challenges and spin the wheel! Then I go for the team bonus points.
And every day I learn something new.

    Have a great day and
