The Mystery Bag of Groceries

Wednesday, March 18, 2020

Hey remember when the mystery bag of (insert whatever you want here) was a fun thing?
Could’ve been cereal. ‘Ooooh! New choco-peanut butter Pooofs!’
Could’ve been a burger meal. ‘Yay! A toy in the bag with my cheeseburger!’
Could’ve been cosmetics. ‘Squee! The new Rock-a-Billy Red Lipstick!’
Could’ve been clothing. Shazam! A hot new color T-shirt of the season. Look at me. Feeling good!

And here is where things get comical - Because I refuse I get frustrated with life right now.

I found a delivery service that finally had some chicken thighs. Yeah Baby! It’s been 2 weeks, store shelves are still like Swiss cheese. We are in week 1 of Emergency Shelter in Place. Y’all know our scene. So I was waving my jazz hands to get chicken. I ordered 3lbs of chicken thighs, some rice (also a big deal) some mascara to meet the $ minimum, and quickly set up the 2 hour home delivery. Bring it baby!
Later the doorbell rings and a bag is placed at our door. Hubbie brought the bag inside and wiped it down.

*Dum dum dum dum*
The delivery service swapped out the chicken thighs for chicken wings due to availability.

Feel like we spun the Wheel of Fortune with Poultry. And I lost.
Neither of us like chicken wings. Booooo

What the heck am I supposed to do with 3 POUNDS of Chicken Wings?
Help me Spark Pals? Any good recipe ideas??

Here’s the finale, hubbie accidentally threw out the bag, with the mascara in it. I’m laughing at that : )

‘Nuff Said,
Bren

Something similar happened to me. Way back at the beginning of March when we couldn't find toilet paper at the store, I found my favorite brand online. Two other things I ordered came but the toilet paper did not come. I wasn't charged for it so all was well.
It is now July. My brand has been back in the stores for awhile. Now I receive two boxes of generic 2-ply toilet paper but not my brand, from the company where I ordered in March. My sister is the lucky recipient of my generousity. LOL.
Did you find a use for the chicken wings?

Wait two weeks with no chicken and they might appeal more. (The meat is much like thigh meat, just harder to get at.) I second using them for soup.

Not sure just how to reply... I know I can't help you, I am a near-vegan. Reading the work of Michael Greger and Joel Fuhrman really convinced me that eating meat, and even more so chicken, is bad for our health...
You could look at the site www.nutritionfacts.org and search 'chicken' to get what I mean!

Broth sounds good... just remember to strain it really well. Those little bones are annoying if they get by you!

Man... I would so hate that! I'm picky about what I pay for at any time. Just because it's a pandemic doesn't mean it's okay to be dishonest. I guess NOSEYME is right, though.... they will make really tasty broth.... not mention the whole house smells amazing... the secret is to add a few whole cloves to the broth. Essentially you can add pretty much anything: a nub of fresh ginger, any sort of onion or herbs, any mushrooms. Here's a recipe to inpire: https://www.seriouseats.com/recipes
