I did not do a blog with my plans for April at the start of the month as it all seemed so unimportant compared to what is happening around the world with this corona viral pandemic.
I retired from nursing in January and have struggled with guilt about not returning to work but feel for me and my family at this time it is the best thing to do. My DH is working two days a week with the local food bank he had been volunteering 1-2 days a week since he retired and there is huge demand on this service
So many deaths in UK and they do not think we have reached the peak yet but they do say things are leveling of. So much on the news continually hearing about death rates and lack of protective equipment. Also arguments about they way things have been handled and plan for ending shutdowns. Our PM Boris Johnson was very ill and luckily now recovering so may now have a different outlook on our NhS and prioritize equipment and testing.
We are very lucky to have our garden and also space to walk outdoors for daily exercise. The shops had been very stressful when everyone did panic buying but the shelves are now filling up although still a few gaps. I go shopping once a week and it takes a long time but everyone has been very patient in my experience.
My DDIL is a primary teacher and has still to go to work 2 days a week as children of key workers still need looking after but her classes are very small. My DS can work from home so can look after the children. It has been hard not been able to visit the 2 year old twins have had chickenpox (3 weeks apart) and I would have been visiting at this time as my DGD is 8 tomorrow.
It is so good that we can facetime and I think we would all be lost without the internet as phone calls are not the same.
My mum has my sister visit twice a day as she is also her carer and they are ok.
Fitness, food, fun. Well all been low priority.
I have gained half a stone
we have been eating more, grazing, bigger portions and “treating” ourselves with food. I have done a lot of baking. Although we are walking most days it is more of a stroll just to enjoy our surroundings I have also done some exercise from youtube but need to do better. I have worked in the garden and cleaned out the summerhouse, shed and garage.
The weather has been lovely over Easter and I now feel ready to pull myself back on track for me it can be too easy to eat too much and the wrong things, I love chocolate.
So my plans are to reduce the snacking and grazing be mindful of calories. I can increase my exercise but for me it is about controlling my eating habits.
As well as the garden I have been Spring cleaning and continue to sort out my photos and am up to the last five years now. I am reading, doing jigsaws and have watched a bit more television so there are lots to keep me busy.
Lets look forward to positive world and personal changes by May.
