Ah man, what a week

Saturday, June 27, 2020

...you might think Thank God it's Friday, but it is always Friday around here. I spent the week pretty much in the garden and the kitchen. The garden is obvious - the kitchen is because I have a large workspace there with my sewing machine.

In the garden, I made some progress with cleaning up efforts. It was long overdue and now since I got started I can say there is a lot of potentials. I had to cut out old vines and discovered the whole plant not worth saving, so I ended up digging out the root as well. During said digging, I discovered large stones I had forgotten about. The kind out stones I often use in my garden to define borders or simply keep dirt from washing away. Anyway, by clearing away old leaves, old vines, and trimming shrubs I got a lot of inspiration and new ideas what to do here. Yesterday I stepped back from this project and went over to my neighbor and raked and cleaned the old leaves and dead grass from her front lawn. Her husband passed away last year and the lawn company they "used" to have keeps blowing her off. They always say next week but then don't show.

In the kitchen... not much cooking is happening. It is too hot out to even think about food. We have a lot of things like rice pudding, sandwiches or fruit, fruit, and more fruit. That is our go-to when we don't know what we want.
I am making more masks. Here in Texas things are getting out of hand. Hubby and I are back to staying home. Not that we went out much before because we both predicted this. I am also sewing fidget blankets for people with Alzheimer's and Dementia, ADHD, and restless hands, for anyone shut-in that benefits from something to fiddle with. That is a new thing for me. I made a number of blankets and fidget sleeves for a local Care center. It is a nice change from knitting and I find I can do both in the evening as well when I listen to my audiobooks. The best part is finding and making the fiddle things that I sew onto the blankets.

What a blessing you are, both to your neighbor who lost her husband, as well as the folks who will benefit from your sewing!

I know what you mean about it being hot and cooking, I meal prepped a pasta salad full of veggies, a chicken salad with veggies and grapes and a caprese salad all of which can be served cold. Be well!
