Disabled and Exercise?
Monday, June 29, 2020
I was recently asked what type of exercise I was doing as I am disabled and am now currently using a cane or walker to walk. Currently I am having health issues again so I have to do exercises in a chair but I have found a fun way to do that.
A few years ago a Shooting Star friend of mine shared with me something she called "Card Deck Exercises" You assign a different exercise to each number Ace thru King. So you have 13 different exercises. Jokers are 5 minute breaks. The suits determine how many of each exercise you do. I do not remember which order she gave me but I use...
Hearts - 5 repetitions
Diamonds - 10 repetitions
Clubs - 15 repetitions
Spades - 20 repetitions
Now, shuffle the deck, turn on the music and turn over a card to begin. Once you get through the entire deck you have done 50 reps of each exercise.
All that being said I used to be able to do all that. Right now I am just using part of the deck. I separated out the hearts and diamonds. It takes me about 20 to 25 minutes to do these. On the days that I am feeling better and am up moving around a bit I add marching and sink planks (like wall planks but gives me the sink to hold on to). As I get stronger I will add cards to my deck I am using to increase my exercises and keep me on the road to better health.
Now there are still days that I am having a lot of issues and feel like I can barely move. Those days I just do simple stretches in my chair, arm curls and leg lifts, anything to get me moving. We have to keep the blood flowing and the heart pumping.
Wanna make that heart pump? Let's get up and dance with Goofy...
May you have a day full of Shooting Stars and Glitter!!
