I tend to set these goals and forget to check in periodically and remind myself of what my intent was, lol
Let’s see how I did:
SMART goals for BLC 43
Long term - reach 150 pounds (goal weight that I discussed with my doctor. This is at the high end of the BMI range for my height of 5’6”)
Short term - lose 6 pounds by the final weigh in of BLC 43 - July 28, 2020
RESULTS: released 12.2 pounds (twice my goal), and was on the “steady shrinkers” list the entire round, as well as streaked in the “nutrition” (I picked option #4 to challenge myself) and streaked for “fitness” also. A TRIPLE STREAKER!
I credit my FOCUS to doing the “Miracle Morning” routine (I’ve blogged about it on WW Connect but meant to post a blog on here also) since April. The only thing I’m NOT doing is waking up one hour earlier. I just begin the routine BEFORE I check any social media site, BEFORE I check my emails, and BEFORE I turn on the TV or start watching puppy and kitten videos on YouTube.
Nutrition plan - whole food plant based & minimizing gluten. Eat a rainbow 5 days/week for nutrition challenge (option 4).
RESULTS: accomplished this & also used app to track of colors eaten (Eat the Rainbow Food journal). The app also helped me to make a better choice in the evening if I was inclined to “reach for” or “look for” something to eat in fridge after dinner or even make a DIFFERENT choice when deciding what to EAT for dinner. For example, if I was missing the color “orange,” then I would reach for a sweet potato, a peach, nectarine or mandarin oranges, or carrots INSTEAD of just going towards chips or cookies. It doesn’t mean that I didn’t reach for those things on some days, but ONLY after I had already eaten ALL the colors AND drank at least 96 oz of water.
Exercise - strength training 2x/week, walking 15,000 steps 6x/week, morning yoga/stretching 20 mins 7x/week
RESULTS: reached step goal (also with the help of StepBets to keep me motivated and earn some $) and did engage in SOME type of movement (it wasn’t only yoga or stretching in the morning or sometimes I did yoga/stretches in evening). Still need improvement with being more consistent with strength training.
Also want to improve the hours of sleep. Finally found a thyroid medication I can tolerate, but it seems to keep me up at night (or if I go to sleep, I wake up in middle of night to use bathroom and then can’t get BACK to sleep
). Endo gave me a couple of suggestions to try, and there are a couple of other natural remedies I’m beginning to explore.
Starting weight 05/06/20 - 195.4
Goal on 07/28/20 - 189.4
ACTUAL weight on 7/29 - 183.2
RESULTS: I’m glad I signed up for this round (I initially was going to sit out, and if I did, I doubt that the scale would have gone in the same direction, let alone surpass the goals I set for myself. Experienced so many NSVs as well, and most importantly, realized how important SELF CARE is connected to the journey.
There were SEVERAL stressors that occurred during this round (credit card fraud, debit card fraud, challenging discussions with my mom, my son’s grandmother passing away in GA and could not attend the funeral (if there even was one), my BIL in in AZ who is still in ICU because of COVID). I was able to keep myself grounded by working on my mind FIRST and then nutrition and activity coincided. It was not smooth sailing, but the routine helped me to stay focused DESPITE the various challenges (it wasn’t EASY, but I had to be MORE MINDFUL in every moment. It doesn’t mean I didn’t have a blip with Oreos or Fritos (two vegan snacks), but the blips didn’t last as long (I reminded myself of “my WHY,” which became more specific once the pandemic hit.
Option 1: Ideally, I still want to experience the Flotation Therapy Tank www.truerest.com but not sure if it will re-open by the end of this round. (Skipping this option)
Option 2: CIZE workout DVDs (holding off on this because I know I will be less likely to stay indoors while the weather is still decent here in OH). This would certainly come in handy as a reward for the next round which will finish just as it starts to get cold or has begun snowing (yes it could happen by Thanksgiving).
Option 3: buy Tabitha Brown merchandise (I am so grateful I came across her YouTube channel before the quarantine began. She has inspired me to RECONNECT to my WHY and also create a more specific WHY once lockdown began. Decided to order a t-shirt.
