Day 133 - The Piling on the Pounds Periodical
Monday, August 03, 2020
For some weeks now I've been keeping a record of everything I eat and do in a document on my computer entitled 'The Well Being Journal'. Considering there doesn't seem to be much 'well being' I think maybe I should rename it The Piling on The Pounds Periodical. Another 10 oz gained this past week. I can tell you what I had to eat, when I went to bed, how I slept [or not], when I got up, how many steps I took, whether I went for a walk, if I did any exercise and if so, what. And for the last few weeks since I've been doing the 'bladder training' I can even tell you how many times I went to the sodding loo and at what time! However, what I can't tell you is why, seemingly regardless of what I do or don't do, I keep gaining weight.
The Welsh government announced recently that swimming pools could reopen from 10th August. Hopeful that might be a solution I've ordered myself a couple of swimsuits. That was quite a depressing experience. I knew I'd have to order a size up, but when I checked the size charts I needed two sizes up. And even that may be chancing my luck. I've been looking at online updates for the two pools I can get to and they aren't reopening on the 10th. In fact they have no reopening dates for the pools as yet though the gyms are reopening. Which frankly is of no use to me atm.
I have a few eats and treats in my cupboard that I bought for the festive season which we didn't use. Totally fed up I decided to open up the tub of mini twiglets, only to cut my finger on the metal lid. It's not a bad cut and I've rinsed it and put a plaster on so should be fine in a day or two. Someone somewhere though clearly has it in for me! Whatever I did, or didn't do, cut me some slack eh?
When I landed up at a&e due as it turned out to the ulcer flaring up, the Dr I saw covered all sorts of different things with me. I touched upon my struggles to lose weight and he wrote a letter for my GP in which he suggested a thyroid test among other things. I was a bit meh! I know that some people really do have thyroid difficulties and it's a big problem. But I've known people to claim they must have a thyroid problem as they 'hardly eat anything' and my jaw has been on the floor because during the course of the evening, I've seen them eat a multi pack of crisps, a party bucket of kentucky fried with various sides, 2 litres of haagen dazs with gummy bears, sprinkles, m&m's plus various sauces, and even as they're telling you that they barely eat anything, they're wolfing down a family size gateaux whilst eyeing up a multi pack of cookies. Which probably amounts to more calories and fat than I eat in a whole week. More than a week in fact.
Besides, I don't have a GP. Which I suppose is something I should sort out. I'm planning on going home mid August so perhaps before going I should register with a local surgery and try to get an appointment. And maybe transfer my info from the Piling on The Pounds Periodical into a notebook so I don't get fobbed off with keep a food diary for x amount of time. Other than that, I intend to plan my 'holiday back home' and just hope that when I return to Base Camp A] swimming pools will have reopened. B] I'll actually go and C] swimming/some sort of water exercise is the magic answer for me.
