Non-Scale Victory

Monday, August 03, 2020

Today, in the coaching section I was intrigued by a poster that said to do one thing I was proud of today. And I had an answer-I did it! I was scheduled for a cervical MRI- this meant I would have to lie on my back for 20 min. or so. The problem? Because of deteriorating discs and arthritis, I haven’t been on my back for that long in years! As the technician tried to help me with pillows and put the ”head gear” on, I was praying hard for God’s peace. I began to seriously hurt about ten minutes in, but I kept telling myself I could do this just a little longer. I used my toes and fingers to count to continue to distract myself. It got to the point where I thought that I would have to push the button and stop! But just then the technician was sliding me out! I had done it!! The very thing I had come to tears about the night before, I had conquered with God’s help. I was shaky and exhausted, but I thought I must have felt what Rocky did when he climbed those steps and danced around. I however carefully slid off the table and limped to my transport. But inside, I was dancing!

That's fantastic news! I'm unable to lie on my back due to my asthma and spinal deformities. Last night I tried an MRI the tech moved my head wrong (multiple traumatic brain injuries) and I got so sick I could barely stand up. Tried it at a later date and my breathing was compromised and I had a panic attack because I couldn't breathe. There's a certain tone when the machine is clacking away that sets me off every single time. I barely managed an emergency CT of my neck last year. Between the cervical collar I had on and my breathing difficulties, they had to unhook the cervical collar so I could actually breathe. That was a challenge for sure.
    Bravo for that victory!

Your strength is amazing! I've had a bunch of the cervical MRIs. (I have 2 fusions) It can be so painful as you said. The good news is that it is over and you did it! A great big YAY for you. I know it was hard.

Praying the MRI gives you answers to help you. I've been there, only with a lumbar scan. I agree it's so uncomfortable! Glad you made it through. emoticon emoticon
