I have been finding out about NEAT or non-exercise activity thermogenesis.
In a nutshell it is finding ways to be more active and boost your metabolism.
I have been stuck at my weight for a while now and no matter what I do the scales stick. Time to figure out ways I can increase movement without doing my back in.
This article made it easier to digest the idea as some sites bogged me down with science and I am not a science gal.
I liked the section Make Appointments To Move.
Now that is something I can to grips with. Setting aside time to work at moving more may seem odd but we schedule time to watch TV so why nor time to move a little more.
NEAT works in ways I had not expected.
I am using this to help me ramp up my movement that way I will be burning a few more calories and getting the scale to co-operate.
I know the scale is not the only thing as I am aware of Non-scale victories but the weight needs to shift as well.
Finding simple ways to sneak activity into your day:
Stand instead of sit. ( Standing is painful if done for a prolonged time.but I can stand for a while)
Get up every 30-60 minutes to stretch or take a brief walk. It does not have to be far just a few minutes into the kitchen and back.
Turn on some music as you dust and hoover to make them more fun. Have a mini dance party!
Find ways to add activity to your evenings – could be as easy as 15 extra mins of chores! Shine the sink, wipe down the cabinet doors and counter tops.
Staying active as much as possible during the day will help towards achieving your results.
I will see how this works during the rest of August.
