Back to School Blues

Thursday, September 03, 2020

I've been struggling with motivation to do things lately. Fortunately, I've gotten my eating under control, but I haven't been feeling like exercising or cleaning or anything. I just want to nap. I'm pretty sure it's because I'm stressed out about going back to school. I work at the same elementary school my stepson goes to. The school is taking a ton to safety precautions, but I just don't feel like we should be going back full time during this pandemic. We've also definitely gotten into our own routine since school went virtual last March. Now everything is going to be crazy and totally different! My fear of change is strong!

Change is never fun. Take the precautions you can. Try not to worry (I know, much easier said than done). emoticon

Take care of yourself. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.I have my best friend here normally she teaches at an international school in China, they are making noises about getting her back.I don't like it! The idea of her 13 hours on a plane scares me. She is teaching online from here right now.

Normally I am a foster grandmother for this year is a 1st grade class in the city. They are doing the remote learning so 2 days in class (1/2 the class one day, 1/2 the other) with 3 days virtual. Okay so how does one do that with 5 and 6 year olds???? YO YO YO!! Last year we did with the 2nd grade,,, I was laughing. I think I told you that some kids would just sign on and wander off, not to be seen again. The ones who you normally have to calm down when they get wound up talking,,,, would talk and talk.

I SURE hope in your area there are no cases. Here in Maine there was a wedding a couple of weeks ago from that ONE wedding in which 55 people attended, one of them didn't know they had COVID. Now there are 144 cases spanning 100 miles apart. YO so the schools opening here,,,, many are in a panic. My friends with school aged kids 90% are not sending them back.

But as a teacher of course, it's your livelihood, and you love the kids. I agree the kids are so cool and so much fun!! Watching them get something they'd struggled with,,, seeing a child who has a low self esteem, suddenly LOVE LEARNING because they realize they CAN DO IT,, WOW PRICELESS!! TY TY TY For ALL You do.

There's a lot of evidence that is normal to lose motivation/resolution when things in the world are crazy! Focus on what you need to and do what you can when you can and you'll be fine :)

I feel for you. Used to work in the school system. Good luck. It is very scary during this pandemic especially since schools are one of the top rated dirtiest places. You can clean, clean, and clean but where there's kids, there's concern.
