Lucy and I are Adjusting

"Growing old is not for sissies!", my dear Mom always said.

My foot continues to be ache-prone, despite cutting way back on my walking.

Lucy, my Portuguese Water Dog, who was my personal trainer last fall and winter, is doing much better than in early July. However, she pants a lot, even when it's cool. The vet said that makes her suspect that at 9 years old, Lucy has Cushing Syndrome. Who knows, I am not sure we can afford to diagnose, much less treat her. Lucy is now able to walk 10 minutes without distress, and appears to agree to the 15-minute neighborhood walk. She tried to turn down toward the park, but I told her I think she needs to work up gradually to that 70-minute walk. Meanwhile, Lucy enjoys ordering us around. Lucy protests that leaving her in the crate while we go out would be too stressful (life-endangering) for her...

It's amazing how fast I have gained weight. It's now even more important for me to take proper care of myself; I cannot ignore healthy habits just because...

The Fall 5% Challenge is just what I need to remind me to do what I know I need to do. Only now I have to figure out how to exercise without aggravating the bone spur on my right mid-foot's metatarsal.

I have been humbled by these challenges. Yes, I know that other people may have much more serious concerns and handle them much better. I feel as though I need to completely retrain my brain to help my body age more gracefully.
