Let's try this again...

Friday, October 23, 2020

I was trying to do one blog entry per day awhile ago and was pretty on target for keeping up with everything but I don't have to tell you that this year has been something else!!

For some reason this is the time of year that makes me feel most alive and connected to the earth, if not to other people.

The vibrant colors, the cooler weather, the animals scurrying to stock up for the winter... the rain and the breezes/winds...

I find it all very exhilarating!

That being said... I think I've done more in the last 3 weeks than I have in the last 3 months and I hope I'm going to continue on in that direction.

Still working from home. Not venturing out much but when I do I try to get everything done in one day and then retreat for another 3 to 6 weeks.

Our state has logged over 10,000 new cases of Covid-19 between Tuesday and yesterday - that's 3 DAYS(!!!!) with the highest number being (I believe) over 4500, although the numbers were skewed because they did a system upgrade over the weekend so nothing was reported for Friday through Monday, but still!! That would be over 10K in less than a week with an 11% positive rate.

Terrifying and we haven't even started flu season, technically!

So I try to stay home. I try to move, watch good movies, listen to amazing music and walk around barefoot outside every day that I can, singing the water song. I've recently been able to get moving again and have set up some virtual training sessions and gotten a nicely long enough workout bench for in the house so I don't have to freeze all winter using the Pilates reformer on the porch (It's too long to bring inside; very small house).

I Zoom every Sunday with an amazing group of women who live coast to coast and who have formed a tiospaye, which is a Lakota word that is about extended family, women, vision, etc. I Zoom with a local group of woman once a month near the full moon where we discuss everything from nothing but day to day occurrences to world-wide events. with friends who are far away. I stay in touch with immediate family and friends calling and texting often. I've even picked up and restarted work on crocheting and artsy projects put aside a while ago.

That's all fine with me. I am and always have been a home-body. I don't feel compelled to go to dinner, attend events, go to the theater to be happy and funnily enough, the friends in my circle are exactly the same way. I love it!!!

I'm still weeding out, packing up, tossing and clearing out but at a slower and more calculated pace. Some things I find easier to go through - like most of the paperwork I had for parents, banking, insurance, etc for years. I finally got rid of or filed all of it. All that's left is the bag of my mom's health related paperwork.

I still can't go thru it. It makes me angry, sad and frustrated. None of it needs to be gone through so I'm leaving it until I need it for a sibling or until I can look at it without those emotions and when I do I'm either going to write a book or share some of it in some form with people who need to know about her last 6 months in particular. I guess we shall see.

Winds are picking up; rain is again moving in with a bit of snow mixed in here and there for the next 4 days I think it is. My seat here is right next to the bird feeder and I am being well entertained.

The Mama squirrel and a smaller one already have their white dots behind their ears but I've seen another that still hasn't gotten them.

I have a mother/daughter cardinal pair who come when it's nearly dark and they are simply beautiful! Sometimes Dad brings his daughter and Mom stays home. I know it's the same baby because I recognize her voice. She's very, very chatty.

Yesterday there was either a hawk or a peregrine on the premises. I hear the commotion and the warnings but when I tried to look, I startled it and only say the tail end as it took off.

Today I saw a blue jay! I haven't seen one here in a few years. It was wonderful to hear him and even more wonderful to actually see him!

And last but certainly not least... the "new" squirrel took a flying leap off the arch toward the kinetic piece which went round and round in a circle before he let go flinging himself into the lilac bush! While the birds were surprised, I think I heard them laughing and the whole bush was moving and moving while he tried to find his way out. Who could ask for anything more???

The little things in life are still good. Even with Covid and all the other crap 2020 has thrown our way.

We are resilient.

We adapt.

We are survivors.
