Today I Am Thankful
Sunday, November 15, 2020
"Thankful" was not my first thought upon being awakened by my annoying alarm.
My day began with dark, rainy skies and too little sleep. My arm ached where I got my flu shot, my eyes itched, I was sneezy and I couldn't find the container holding my morning meds. Considering the highly frustrating times we are all enduring, my day began fairly normally.
Truly, our world is not easy to live in. We all wish the pandemic was over. We all want to be able to make plans to be with family and friends for the holidays. It's hard not to think about all that we have had to give up and do without this year.
Yet, today I realized how thankful I am to be alive.
~I can breathe. There are those for whom this is a painful struggle.
~I have a place to live and the rent is paid. There are many who have no housing or are facing eviction.
~I can purchase food to eat. There are those who are hungry now or unsure where their next meal will come from.
~My family and those I love are healthy. Far too many of us can no longer say that.
I am blessed to be alive.
I am free to love and be loved.
I can pursue kindness and make the most of this life I have been given.
