Setting goals

Wednesday, December 30, 2020

I had to laugh - someone asked me if I was still working on my bookcases. Yes I am but this is the kind of thing that keeps happening to me. I start a project, then something else happens so I move on, then something else gets in the way. And I have to get back to all the unfinished projects.

so my things to get done are:

- finish the bookcases
- take the decorations down and store them properly (they were way cluttered before and I now have new totes to do the job)
- finish the kitchen

Of course I have a lot more to do but those are the top 3. And I suppose the proper order is now decorations, kitchen and then back to bookcases.

I am hoping to have all the decorations done by the end of the weekend as I have linens to wash and outside lights to take down - and we have a good foot of snow on the ground.

well onwards and upwards as they say.

I often start one thing and then have to work on another in order to finish the first! Everything is connected!

Some days I say to myself what is the easiest thing I can do. Then I get started.

I know what you mean about getting side-tracked. We got about 6" of snow while I was driving to the new house, and then in the morning, the plows came along and I couldn't back out of my driveway (because of the ridge of snow the plows left) to go buy a snow shovel - had to borrow one from a neighbor.
I find I need to make lists these days or I never get back to some project or other. emoticon

I find that refreshing to hear someone else is like that. I do that with knitting projects!

I always over plan way more than I can get done, at least I have my next list started. lol

I tend to bounce between projects, then although I've worked hard, it doesn't look like I accomplished anything.

I am the queen of starting projects and then wandering off for a while. Good for you for getting the totes to help you do the job properly. emoticon

I must say that I am one that also starts a task and then something else takes over. You will get it done, piece by piece.

Well, they say, "Misery loves company."
I remember hearing adults say that phrase back in the dark ages when I was a kid.

So, I am glad I am not the only one that starts with good intentions that get interrupted for some good cause and it takes me forever, or sometimes what seems close to it, to get back on track and finish what I started.... before all head-way has been lost and I must essentially start from scratch aka ground-zero once again.
Sometimes I get really smart and make my tasks bite sized to begin with thus I just need to keep doing one bite at a time.. but too often I try to eat the whole elephant in one bite... it never works. I know that.. yet my "Major Project for 2021" equals go through all my possessions separating those things I truly need plus those things I truly want and would pay to ship to a new home... from everything else... and the everything else will need to find a new home or get trashed. Hopefully I can find good homes for the stuff that has at least some monetary value.. else they will also be trashed..
Now my task is to parse this 'elephant-sized' task into bite-sized bits and pieces that even a mouse would consider a wee small snack.
Happy New Year... May 2021 bless you will all your needs and a least a few of your wants met with ease.

There are always so many things to do. I work full time, so weekends are pretty busy. My husband is very ill, so I have a full list all to myself.

It sounds like you have a great plan and a lot of work ahead. Have fun reorganizing everything so it is just how you want everything to be. I think your priorities are spot on.
