This week I have been meditating on Isaiah 43:18-19 and learning how to START new.
I've learned that starting over can happen when I am willing to:
S - Stop making excuses!
T - Take inventory of my life
A - Act in Faith
and now R - Refocus My Thinking
Proverbs 4:23 says to keep watch over your heart. We all know our heart, our emotions, are tied to our thinking. Our "feelings" cannot be trusted yet we are commanded by God to love the Lord our God with all of our heart, all of our feelings. We will not always "feel" like doing what is right or love what is right, but when we monitor our thinking, we can better control how we are feeling and refocus before those feelings lead us down dangerous ground. We've all been there, our mind wanders, thoughts enter our head and we wonder, "where is this coming from" or maybe sometimes we are so tired and distracted that we are not even aware of the ground we are walking on.
God has provided a way, even now. In Romans 12:2 - And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. (NKJV)
Renew means to make new or begin again. This means that you get back up when you fall, you have taken inventory, you understand where you are at, but you do not stay in the darkness of your mind, but you start over, make new or begin again. Satan loves to destroy us in our minds and we are easy targets.
Psalm 1:2-3 promises that the one who delights in the law and meditates on it DAY and NIGHT will be a tree planted by streams of water.
So where will your focus (or refocus) be today?
