Fish Markets and Pharmacists
Friday, January 08, 2021
Recently, my husband retired and I had to hustle to sign up for Medicare Part B and a supplemental insurance plan. It was a hurried thing, because we were on our way out of state for a month. Arriving at our destination, I realized I would run out of two of my prescriptions before we got back home. As normal, I went to a pharmacy, took in the pill bottles with the prescription details and gave them my new insurance number, etc. I was told it would be an hour, because they'd have to call the pharmacy in my home state. Returning a couple hours later, I was told it would be up to 24 hours. Then I got a call from the pharmacist. Through a glitch in the system, I had coverage that started on January 1, 2021, and ended on that same day. I texted the insurance agent to straighten things out, then called my supplemental insurance company to get a vacation override. They wanted to see the prescriptions. I didn't have a paper copy, nor the time to obtain one and fax it to them. No problem: the doctor would give the insurance company (who now will send my prescriptions through the mail) all my info and call the pharmacy here to straighten things out. I put the doctor's secretary on speaker phone and started looking through my recent calls to give them the phone number. There were two in a row for this city, so I gave her the first one. Then I realized I had given her the phone number for Walt's Fish Market where we got carry out last night! We had a laugh, then figured out the correct number. This is exhausting! I still have to pick up the scrips and hope the cost isn't exorbitant.
