When I first laid eyes on my Handsome Prince, ...
my heart skipped a beat.... You can probably see why. We were made for one another. That is me on the left. Smiling.
But after the honeymoon, life happened. We discovered we had flaws. There were times my ‘handsome prince’ drove me up a tree! Here’s how it went:
“Did you see that piece of paper I laid on the desk?”
“What piece of paper!”
‘You know, (he always prefaced it with-‘you know’). The piece of paper I laid right there--(pointing to the spot) It had a R-E-A-L-L-Y important phone number on it!”
“You mean that little scrap! On a scale of 1-10 how important would you say it was?”
“it was a Twelve!”
“Ok, no need to get testy. Let's remember our vows to love, honor, cherish and ......"
"The paper--where is it?"
Um…. Lemme think,” I said trying to fake a smile. “Exactly what color of paper was it ?”
“It was green!” he fumed. “Green?” I ask naively.
“It might have been orange or pink!” he croaked.
“Oops! Oh Ribot!" (that means oh darn)
“What do you mean—Oops?”
“Well the number was kind of scribbled, and I did not think it was important so……….”
“So what did you do with it?” (his face turning red)
“If I tell you the truth, do you promise not to get mad?” (I begged) “Look above your head.”
“I was feeling creative … so …. I …um... well-uh....
“OH LOOK!” I shouted. “Did you see that bird that just flew by the window?”
Flaws and all--my handsome prince and I have been living happily ever after--(42 years next September)) ..
(There are still times I look at him or hear his voice and my heart skips a beat)
