A Warm Day
Saturday, January 23, 2021
After some cool/cold days when it was wonderful to start the day with a hot pot of tea and the day is made better by bowls of steaming soup or stew and fresh loaves of home baked bread, today was warm and I had to mentally switch gears back to fresh salads and frozen grapes for my meals du jour.
We may have only a few warm days with temps close to 80 (or warmer!) before they plunge again to frost levels, but the schizophrenic weather easily promotes flexible meal planning..... warm casseroles and comfort food one day followed by light frozen sorbets and sandwiches the next.... I keep a variety of options in my pantry pretty much all the time.
I DO keep a supply of frozen fruits on hand, so sorbets and banana ice cream are easy spur-of-the-moment treats, which I find are much safer calorie bombs than hot homemade bread and its obligatory butter embellishment.... mmmmmm, Hot bread!
I DID get out earlier today and picked up some next-day rotisserie chicken, which would go well either in hot food or topping a crisp salad, so I’m ready whether the weatherman is correct in his forecast or not... so I just might hunker down at home and play at getting rid of clutter while at the same time crafting..... yay!
