I should know better......

Monday, March 01, 2021

I weigh every day. Sometimes that’s motivating, sometimes not. Most of the time, I understand the fluctuations of weight, but not always; sometimes they don’t make sense and are just frustrating! This past week was one of those times, up and down then up.....

Now if this were one of my Sparkfriends blogging, I would have the following advice...

* daily fluctuations are normal, it will even out
* you are doing everything right, be patient
* you have done so well, don’t give up
* look at what you have achieved so far
* focus on the positives
* slow and steady wins the race
* it will happen, plateaus seem to happen for no reason at all
* baby steps, it will come right

BUT, this was ME!

Luckily, I have my support network right here and, by staying here and focusing on others’ blogs, keeping my head down and following some advice I might have given, such as ‘kickstarting’ my metabolism by ringing the changes of my eating, it worked....

I’m back in Onederland, my weight having meandered the last few days and I’m planning my next steps!

In other news...

I had my first neck physio appointment today. The therapist is a lovely young woman and I managed to explain what had happened in my fall in French, as well as the pain and lack of complete mobility in the neck. She in turn explained what she would do to make things right - she will use a combination of massage and manipulation to relieve the stiffness in my upper spine/lower neck, so that I no longer have the muscle ‘knots’ and regain full mobility and eradicate pain. It all sounds good to me. No manipulation possible today, but I had a wonderful massage and another appointment booked for Thursday. French nealthcare is truly wonderful and I got to practise my spoken French, which needs more practice and has been lacking lately, because of the confinement situation due to COVID, although I have had some practice on the phone, which is even tougher than face to face...

I also found a cheap pair of ‘skinny’ canvas jeans for 10€ in the supermarket, in a sage green. Knowing that I chose the right size, I may well invest in a couple of other colours as many of my jeans are getting too big. I’ll need to get smaller shorts soon too.

Finally, I have now found that many of my t-shirts are too big, so as they’re unisex, I’ll keep them for Laurie as he loses weight...

Yesterday, I also finished knitting the baby blanket for my daughter’s friend’s baby, so I knitted three matching hats.

The blanket with two of the hats

The third hat

I love knitting for babies, they are so quick to do. Now I need to finish some bits for myself that I started years ago, at least three separate items.... I also have the wool for a fourth and fifth lol.

Love the knitting. I am the same way. I know it's just fluctuations, but it's different when it's me! Great job losing weight overall! Exciting that clothing is too big.

I know what you mean on the daily weigh-in: many times I can predict which way those numbers are going to swing as well as exactly by how much!
(Tex-Mex = 2 lbs even if I rationed the chips)

But I was surprised by a minor “whoosh” down the scales - for me, a 2 lb loss is a Big Deal, I guess it was most of the day fasting and all that sunshine I soaked up yesterday! Hubby exclaimed “You’re sunburned!” when I came in and sure enough, I was! Ordinarily that helmet provides partial shade to my face...

Such a cute blanket and baby hats! I am sure the recipient of your thoughtful gift will absolutely love it! Plateauing is rough on the psyche but stick with the plan, you can do this and will get through it! I had to quit weighing in daily and only do it once a week because that number fluctuating daily on the scale can drive you crazy. Hang in there!

Here's a piece of advice not listed - weigh in only once a week!
    emoticon
And I would add to that with - weigh in only when in a good mood!

Yes, you know all the reasons for your numbers.
As long as it doesn't go , Up, Up, Up, you know it will be fine. Although changing things up now and then is always a good idea. Keeps our bodies guessing.

    Love your knitting.

Glad your appointment went well. Hopefully after treatment you will feel much better and be able to get back on track exercising. I usually weigh myself every day too which I agree is not always a good thing. But keeping things in check helps reach goals. Sometimes it's easier to see when wearing clothes - especially when they get too big. Glad you get to practice your French. It us just a beautiful sounding language. Love the colors for the afghan and hats.

Keep up the good work. You are an inspiration.

Love the baby stuff you made. I hope they do too.

Frustrations of the scale. Yep, we all know those. I got on the scale this morning fully expecting to have lost weight after a few days lower calorie and the scale being stuck, just to find I'm 1.5 pounds heavier. I will listen to your advice, and you must too!!!

Congratulations on the Onederland! I used to record my weight on a graph only when it was lower. It helped me to say to myself: “It will go down. It will take the time it takes.” Sometimes it was a long time between recording weights, but that was OK.
