Going to Colonial Williamsburg Feb 23-28

Thursday, February 07, 2008

For me it is that time of year again when my work sends me to the Smithsonian International Conference on Cultural Property Protection(that is quite a mouthful!) and this year it is in Colonial Williamsburg. I have never been there before but it looks like a great place to go. Wish my wife and daughters could go with me but work and school just do not allow them the time. The conference is great and I have a lot of old friends who go every year that I get to catch up with and this year will be a big surprise.

I have always been the "big" guy who would eat anything and everything when at this conference with free food and plenty of restaurants we go out to. So this year I will be in a sense a new man attending that most if not all will not recognize. 135 pounds lost, no glasses and a different outlook on life and I will get the question "Are you sick?". It will be interesting especially when we introduce ourselves on the first day as a whole by passing a microphone around and stating our name, institution and years we have attended the conference(this will be my 8th), maybe I will throw in a "No I am not sick, no I did not have surgery and yes I am negotiating with Subway!".

Do not know why I am blogging this just kinda felt like it. If you read this and have any suggestions for things to do in Williamsburg beyond the obvious, please let me know.

haha that's awesome!!! I love your subway comment you should definately do that. Also if you get the question, are you sick, I'd say no, I'm healthy! My one tip is, whatever hotel they put you in, take advantage of the fitness room! Those are fun, and it'll help you make sure all that free food doesn't stick with you too much lol HAVE FUN!!!!!!

Hi! I hope you have fun in Williamsburg. One of my favorite parts of losing weight it seeing old friends. I am from Virginia Beach and have been to Williamsburg a few times...mainly to check out William & Mary, take colonial tours, go to amusement parks (kings dominion/busch gardens/water country usa), and to eat at pierces pitt barbecue. The barbecue joint is vegetarian friendly but not as healthy. Let's not kid ourselves- it is not in any way healthy...so because I am giving you unhealthy and obvious suggestions- I will take off....Have a great time! -Annie Marie
