4 miler planned, but I didn't count on going down a road in the neighborhood kitty corner to mine that didn't quite go straight to the main road, as expected, so I added a bit of distance there, and also in getting to the corner of the mile-per-side block I went around on Friday evening. Ended up w... Read more

  • Wolverine in Washington!

    5/29/2020 12:14:32 AM, by AHTRAP

So the college football season for the University of Michigan team is supposed to kick off in Seattle on September 5th, with a game against the University of Washington. With the coronavirus throwing things into disarray, who knows if that contest will actually take place or not. But Michigan coach ... Read more

  • Why work so hard?

    5/27/2020 10:52:42 PM, by AHTRAP

So my little streak of going for a walk ends at three days. Like I said the other days, the 12 miles I put on my shoes probably exceeds the amount of wear and tear I put on them the two prior months combined, so I am a tad sore. More to the point, I had to go shopping today, and then I had an online... Read more

  • Another 4 miler with coffee

    5/26/2020 9:50:59 PM, by AHTRAP

Third day in a row I've gone for a four mile wander. About as much exercise as I managed in the previous two months, truth be told. This time, the goal was to collect on another free coffee drink, this time at Dunkin Donuts, which lies two miles away by foot. Unlike yesterday's exertions being cance... Read more

  • I'll admit, it's counterproductive....

    5/25/2020 10:33:42 PM, by AHTRAP

...to go on a 4 mile walk, with a stop at Starbucks in the middle (within the first mile, really) to collect on that free birthday drink. Spark exercise tracker gives me credit for 470 calories for the ~19 minutes a mile pace, and the drink probably sets me back at least that much, so it evens out. ... Read more

Usually do a couple of Duolingo lessons and this blog entry thing in conjunction with one another, but yesterday, that connection got broken. I did duolingo on my phone while waiting for the Green Carnation concert, which was awesome, and featured a lot of songs from A Blessing in Disguise, as well ... Read more

  • I stye, with my little eye(lid)

    5/22/2020 5:18:34 PM, by AHTRAP

Haven't had one of these for a while, I haven't missed them at all. From past experience, it'll be 2-4 days of annoyance. This one is bugging my eye, because the clog seems to be on the inside of the eyelid and as such digging a bit into the eye. On a larger scale, it doesn't particularly matter, no... Read more

  • Same as it ever was

    5/21/2020 10:54:36 PM, by AHTRAP

This is 45. 217.6 lbs. Compare with 40, when I was at 206.6, as per the SP tracker. Definitely seem to have put some mileage on, looking back, I can see why I occasionally got carded going to a bar or a casino. That stopped happening at some point. Not too awfully worried about t... Read more

Okay this is rough. I have not been very happy with myself lately, so I guess this is a good one from sparkcouch. 1. I'm a good listener 2. I can be strong in the face of major obstacles and pain. 3. I show my family and friends that I care about them every chance I get. Now it's you... Read more

Of the age, 45, which I shall achieve tomorrow, not some kind of weapon, as intimated by the Shinedown song, "Staring down a barrel" https://www.youtube.com/watc

What major fitness goals are you aiming for? Right now I'm working on upper body strength, seated yoga, and I'm going to try to start doing seated cardio and core. But my main goal is to find out what's wrong with my right knee and stop using my cane! What are your goals?... Read more

    5/19/2020 1:00:06 AM, by AHTRAP

Never did end up going back to figuring out whether I've ever used this entry's title for another blog post previously. Decided it doesn't matter. When you're talking about a favorite book, as is the case of "Watership Down," by Richard Adams, the first line of which I've borrowed for this title, it... Read more

    5/18/2020 9:18:40 PM, by AHTRAP

I was perusing the titles of the blog entries I've made in recent months, because I wanted to see whether I was about to repeat a title I'd used not too long ago. I didn't find it in use, but I only searched as far back as December, because I started actually reading the entries I made at that point... Read more

  • "You're twice the man I am"

    5/17/2020 1:17:46 AM, by AHTRAP

I actually wrote that line in a note last night. Oddly enough, it was to someone I don't even know. But it is 100% accurate, or will be as of next Thursday. See, there was a post on my high school's alumni facebook page a couple of weeks ago, saying that someone was hitting a huge milestone bi... Read more

  • Book buying* spree!

    5/16/2020 3:04:56 PM, by AHTRAP

While at CVS yesterday, I walked past a little display holding a few classic books in paperback, for a decent price, and I was tempted to grab Tom Sawyer, a tome I haven't read in decades, but remember fondly from my youth. It was listed at $5.99 on that shelf, but I thought maybe I should check Ama... Read more

  • Double trip to CVS

    5/15/2020 10:42:01 PM, by AHTRAP

I live about halfway between two CVS locations, one about a mile to the west, the other a mile and a quarter to the east. The rain having passed through in the morning, and my needing to go grab a medication for my mom, I decided to walk to the closer one after dinner. Just over halfway there, just ... Read more

It was my nephew's 9th birthday today, so we called and talked to him a couple of times. The second instance was a zoom meeting with his buddies, and his cousins, and other family, so that was nice...to an extent. But then the 8 and 9 year olds got to talking over one another and it got chaotic. Th... Read more

Picked up the Harry Potter and the Sorceror's stone book for the first time in forever, figured it'd be an easy read and launch me into going through that series again. • Back scratch fever

Two of the best purchases I've ever made cost less than 2 dollars. One was a big Bloom County compilation of the comic strip from the 1980s that I scored at some point in the early 90s from the clearance rack outside the Borders Book store in Ann Arbor for $1.83. The second item was a humble back sc... Read more

Opened this space up without an idea of what to say, so I think I'll just leave it up in the background, and fill it in as things occur. Listening to my fave Queensryche album, "Promised Land". I used a snippet of a lyric from its title track as a entry title the other day ("almost called it to... Read more

  • Big spender

    5/10/2020 8:34:27 PM, by AHTRAP

In one fell swoop a few minutes ago, I quadrupled my spending for the month. Of course, since in the first 9 days of the month, I'd spent a whopping total of 4 dollars and 66 cents, it's not as if I broke the bank. Bought some more games to amuse myself with, with a $13 dollar spend to unlock a Humb... Read more

Well things were going pretty well lately. My migraines went down, I was doing yoga, I started physical therapy again, everything was going okay. May 8, 1945, was the day that the European portion of World War II officially ended, with the Germans unconditionally surrendering the remnants of their shattered forces to the Allies. The weather is hardly the top thing on my mind, but the top things are rather uniformly depressing, so, hey, how about the weather? Low of 26 forecast around here tomorrow night, with a 40% chance of snow. Wait...that's depressing, too. Although, I think it's kind of amusing to be talking about... Read more

Projections of how many people will die due to covid 19 in the US are a dicey proposition, due to the variables at play, and not knowing how one projection might deal with information, what inputs it uses, etc. But when you see a projection, just two weeks ago, that the death toll will cap out at 60... The mobile version does show it, but in the past month, having been home, and usually getting these out of the way at some point mid day, I've bar... Read more
