....when songs like "You're sixteen (you're beautiful and you're mine)" could be produced and broadcast openly without resulting in cries of indignation and a massive public backlash. Remember, Ringo Starr was 34 when he wrote this song about a 16 year old. Nowadays he'd be branded a dirty old letch.

....when online was where you hung your wet washing to dry.

....when a tweet was the noise a bird made (yeah, we're all old enough to remember that)

....when, as with Mathematics, Science and English, American History was a compulsory subject in Australian high schools.

....when the whole family ate dinner together at the table with no television on. Upon finishing your meal if you wanted to leave the table you'd have to ask your mum or dad, "may I please be excused?"

....when my mum could do the weekly food shopping, including everything; meat, fish, vegies, fruit, pantry items, fridge items, cleaning products etc. for less than $10. And there were eight of us in the family!

Everything mentioned below except the end of WWII and when tv did not come on until 5pm. It was Kate smith and she would sing "when the moon comes over the mountain". This show was followed by Howdy Doody. It was NYC in 1954.

...when being gay meant being happy.

...when women had to stop working once they got married.

...when disposable nappies didn't exist. They were made of cloth and had to be soaked in anti-bacterial solution for at least four hours but no more than 24 hours then washed in very hot water and line-dried in the sun.

when the Platters had the number one "record" on the radio.

when you bought your listening music, as singles on 45 records. ..if you were lucky, you got a double sided hit.
