I hated those paddle balls. When they broke, my mom would use them on me. (when I was bad) I use to hide them under the couch...

We may have had some teachers we thought were mean, but we respected them and all of our teachers. We were taught by our parents how to act, and brought up by our parents and family, not by the school system. Our teachers were not afraid that they would be attacked or shot. For me personally, I am very thankful I was brought up in the 50's and 60's, before everything got so crazy.

I do remember the paddle balls, where you would try to hit the ball, attached to the elastic string, on the paddle.

I remember the day in middle school (editing to say, junior high school) when we girls were allowed to wear pant suits to school. That was a big day!

I remember 3 channels on tv and UHF and VHF if the earth was aligned just right. :)

I remember summers and leaving the house with my friends in the morning and not checking back in until lunch and then again dinner. Mom didn't worry that we'd been snatched by a crazy person.

I remember when the kid that got the trophy got it for being the best at what he/she did. Not for just being a participant.

I remember the teachers kept their college sorority paddles in their coat closet in their classrooms. Just as a reminder to any onery student that she could and would use it.

I remember the skirt to the floor thing, too. Once a friend of mine wore coolots (sp?) to school. It had a panel across the front to look like a skirt. When she turned around, it looked like shorts. Well, we had an old woman who taught typing. She made my friend wear a long raincoat during the class. Said she wasn't to wear PLAY CLOTHES to school again. How mean some of our teachers were....

When we were in school, we had to wear dresses, no slacks, jeans, etc. The boys had to wear dress pants and button-down shirts. When mini-skirts became popular, if the female assistant principal thought it was too short, she would take you into her office and you would have to kneel. If the dress didn't touch the floor, you were sent home. I didn't wear anything short, because I've always been rather 'hippy', or 'hippie' lol!

My great-great grandparents had a wood burning oven in their house. I don't know how she did it, but she baked and cooked on that thing. It was huge.
They also had the claw bathtub. (I guess that's what it was called)
The heat came from one wood stove located in the living room. The rest of the house was freezing in the winter.

Looking at the series of Daniel Boone. I love the series I seen it last weekend.

If you go by the way side on an eating bing, just get up and start again. I always say I will be on a diet for the rest of my life because I love food. But since Spark People I can eat the right foods and not get out of control. Keep up the good work no matter what people say about you. Love yourself. Do it for yourself and no one else. Having to actually get up to change the channels (yes, choice of 3), or sitting in a chair and talk on the phone, because the cord only reached so far! My parents actually bought one of those 20-foot 'curly' cords, so we were able to go some distance around the house lol!

I remember how much I loved to rollerskate, and how I would wear my skate key on a string around my neck. I wore my skates on my old saddle oxfords because they had the best soles for attaching my skates.

Watching The Mousekeeters, Howdy Doody, vinyl 78s, 33 1/3 and 45's that you had to put the little metal, then plastic adapter in the middle hole; playing cops and robbers with the neighborhood kids, ice skating on the neighborhood pond or sledding either the 'little' or 'big' hill; remembering when our phone went from a party line to a private line; having metal ice cube trays with the handle in the middle to get the ice out; holidays were always family gatherings of grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins and close friends. So much to remember and as another poster said - being blessed to be able to remember!
