I am really excited! Today I am finally getting that daybed. I ordered it already through Clink and Pull, so my sister and I just have to pick it up. Going through Ikea can be an exhausting thing so this way to order is worth the $5 service charge.

The truly dreaded part? Putting the bed together. Ikea furniture has a reputation lol.

@TABATHA_CAIN Congratulations on your weight loss! As you are working towards your goal, I do encourage you to find some clothes that fit. Second hand stores, thrift stores, and traditional stores' clearance racks are excellent resources to not have to spend so much.

My sister is coming tomorrow to help me go get the daybed I have been eyeing at Ikea for 2 years and can finally afford. I have a box of baseball, mostly MN Twins, memorabilia for her son that she will be taking. I have waited a bit to give it to her because they were in the process of showing their old house and moving into their new place.

I am dreading having to go through my closets. None of my clothes fit me other than my work shirt I just got and a pair of pants and my undies and bras I just recently bought. I have lost almost 70 pounds so I really need to get new clothes. I am just not wanting to buy a lot until I get to where I want to be.

Wow @KALISWALKER Your got rid of a lot of stuff and hopefully, someone else is able to put it to good use, maybe even on their own journey to being healthier. A 30 pound bag of clothes! I know that felt heavy...to imagine that's the excess you were lugging around. I am super proud of you on both counts.

In 2016 I lost 30 pounds so I did a Marie Kondo to purge my fat clothes. I donated the clothes to a charity that gives the clothes away for free.

I did Marie Kondo and started with all these clothes.

Coincidentally the clothes I donated weighed 30 pounds!

I love reading how people are tackling dreaded tasks! I got my tshirts cut apart yesterday and just need to get the shipping information shipped for the quilt I ordered. That will mean 2 quilts done and a few more to go! LOL..my bank accounts dictate how quickly it goes sometimes.

I can only stand for around 7-10 minutes before my back and hip are screaming, so awhile back I did up a chore chart...of 5-20 minute tasks and get my work done in short spurts. Finishing a job feels great....regardless of the time involved.

I am SO encouraged by all your posts! I live alone so every mess is my own. Years back I'd tell myself: "Do one thing at a time and do it well".....now...the bare minimum seems too much most days! I do love having things neat and orderly in my apartment but my Inner Maid has been on extended leave. I think she needs to be replaced.

In an effort to jump start clearing out my closet, I've posted a leather jacket I don't wear to our sale channel at work. I sold one during the summer. If this one doesn't get any interest, I'll take it to a consignment store. If that doesn't work out, off to donation.

I ordered another tshirt quilt yesterday from Project Repat. They had a 40% off sale and I ordered a twin size. I will be able to send in 20 tshirts I don't use and are hogging up space. I don't want to get rid of them because they do have memories. I will put the blanket to good use.

For customer service week, my management team gave us 2 30 minute blocks of non phone time to do what we wanted. I was able my time yesterday to get my home office (I work from home) a bit cleaned up. I need to get a better desk eventually but getting some organization done was nice.

I finally got my new TV stand put together for my 2nd bedroom/office and got the old, ugly one into the garage for donation. I really need to tackle the closet in the same room. Most of the stuff is good but it's just chaos.

2BDYNAMIC, yes, that is one I end up trying to avoid too!! But must do or it ends up stinky in the bathroom!

Today I'm doing the dreaded task of cleaning the exercise room and trying to figure out what to do with the boxes that have been tossed in there because no one knows what to do with them. Oh joy! Hopefully DH will help me.

Break them up into manageable parts and do one at a time. It might help to make a list of which have the most priority. I read-I think on Sparks-JOLT Which means “Just One Little Thing”.

GABY1948, I've heard that works best, and will be trying it out for the next two weeks!! My most dreaded task is cleaning. It just seems like a never ending task. So, Starting tomorrow, that will be first, then exercise (my 2nd dreaded task because I'm so out of shape) then sewing lessons.

I didn't go through all the kitchen boxes, one box is grilling things that I'm betting DH forgot we even had!!! Another had all my baking tins and cake pans (I've not been able to make cakes because we didn't know where they were, and they are nice Wilton ones and I was not willing to buy more!). So, our kitchen is tiny, I can't keep much, time to get DH to drag the boxes out in the open and just go ahead and go through them all. Hopefully this evening when he gets home. Last night he had an after hours meeting and didn't get home till almost past dinner time, so we were all too tired to bother with it.

I did drag in my multi-color drawer craft drawers (on wheels) I have one in my sewing area, but the one I dragged in had stuff in it from years ago and most of it got thrown away or I'm sending it to a friend (stuff that can't go bad) who is homeschooling and can use it. And some games and stuff to have the girls decide if they wanted to keep or throw away. They have not decided yet.

Sounds like the pay off for rearranging the offices is great!!! Good luck with those kitchen boxes. I have been using the rule that if it's been sitting in my garage for 4+ years and prior to that, a storage unit for a year, I don't need it. So, it's a common promblem.

Today I will be cleaning the entertainment room, soon to be DH's office and entertainment room!! He's giving me the office we now share (well, my computer is in here, everything else is in a corner with a small writing table I bought) for my own office, but mainly craft room!! So I'll have my computer right next to my sewing machine for those classes that walk you through things!! SO excited! It's going to take a while, we have to get the internet people to set up a land line in the basement where the entertainment room because reception is spotty down there and we don't want his internet to blip on his work from home days.

Also, today I will be going through the kitchen boxes in the garage. I'm looking for the tines that go on my electric hand mixer, but may as well go through and decide if, since it had been out there for over a year, do I really need it? The only thing I know I'm going to keep is my juicer, I want to eventually start juicing once a month again, the juice I make (Green Glow, with a few extra things added) makes me feel like a million bucks, but I can't afford the extra calories most of the time.

So that is my dreaded task for today, going through the the kitchen boxes. I have tons of bread pans, but most of the time now I make torpedos or use my cast iron dutch oven, except when making something like banana bread. So I must ask myself, do I need this many bread pans? The hoarder in me says YES! But the rest of me says I don't really.

I agree that the best time is now to get something done. I imagine 1:13 is an even better time lol.

I got through another box yesterday. Well, I at least got it started. Some items went automatically into the recycling or trash bins, a few were added to the donation pile, and others were shifted into a box to get sorted. I need to get some more bins to sort into.

Tammy, I agree! I heard the saying, 'the best time to do something is right now' so if you walk past that piece of garbage on the floor, pick it up right away and throw it away! I'm trying to get in this mindset! My YDD when she was much younger asked me when the best time to do something was, and I said, right now. She took me literally and went and looked at the clock. It was 1:13. So the best time to do something is 1:13, that is our joke now, LOL

The oldests' room has become so bad you can't see the floor, even though I've had them working on it for at least 30 minutes every day! We are tackling the kitchen today too, we had a few days on non-stop cooking and baking and the dishes piled up and a lot of them are hand wash. Some got pretty stuck on. I'm going through my jewelry today as well, I have some of my Mom's but it is not my style, and I have been given stuff that is not my style (or size) So, I'm letting my kids go through what I don't want (Not Mom's stuff, that will go into safekeeping) and take turns picking what they want, whatever they don't want will get donated.

Milan613, yes, it has gotten pretty cold here in MI but then I am always either chilly or hot and sweating....think it is from the Sepsis I had in 2017 and was hospitalized for 6 months.....and doctoring for 1.5 years.....it was horrid but I lived and that is what counts.

I managed to go through all of the stuff in the filing cabinet, not sure what to do with some of it, gonna have to get DH to help with that. But the filing cabinet is an old, black, dented, ugly thing, and I can't find a place to put it where it looks okay in the bedroom. I might move it to the office after we clean the office all the way, if there is room, but all the paperwork goes in my bedroom where I have my writing table (initially got it for journaling, Bible studies and writing letters and such).

Today I'm tackling two bags of scrap cloth I was given to help me practice sewing, I'm learning how, I want to get good enough to open my own online store and have 10% of the proceeds go towards buying materials to make for donations. I'll change what I'm making for donations every quarter. I'd like to make things like pillows for ports and hats and head scarves for cancer patients, I found a neat thing to go on walkers to carry things that elderly people need so they don't have to carry an extra bag, things for animal shelters.... I think once I start making enough profit to pay for the site itself, then I'll start taking 10% of the profits towards the charitable portion of the store. Eventually I want to get good enough to make clothes for people with disabilities who have problems getting clothes that they can wear. I have a friend who has a son that can't stand buttons, tags, scratchy anything, several things that he just can't wear. But first, I'm starting with some ties and bow ties for my little almost 2yr old cousin. Then I'll make bow ties and flowers to go on my dogs collars!!

Gaye, wow, changing to winter stuff already? It is getting cooler here earlier than normal, but not that cool! (I wish, I love cooler weather! Though my doctor says that will change as I lose more weight, he says I'll get colder easier)

Today I finished going through the paperwork, but the cabinet is still in the central area upstairs. So I've got to move things around in my room and find where I want to put it and start putting things up. I have a whole pile of stuff I'm not sure what to do with, but I also tossed a whole bag almost of paperwork!!

Tomorrow I'm starting my new workout routine! I've been looking forward to and dreading it, so I'm glad it is finally starting!!

@CROUCHINGFLEA I can totally relate!!! The crap in my garage has been there since I moved into my house4 years ago and it sat in storage for a year before that. With the furniture and such that was out there, I figure if I haven't used it in 5 years, it's gone.

I am glad to hear you are getting your filing back into order!!!

My filing cabinet is in the garage from the move two years ago still. Today, I'm going to finally empty it (I opened it to find something and everything had fallen and was in complete disarray) lug it up to my work area in my room, and start filing and throwing away stuff. I have a pile of papers I went through yesterday that I tossed most of and just have what needs to be filed left. Most of what is in the filing cabinet will probably be toss stuff too as it is all old. Not looking forward to it, but it will make things so much easier to have my filing system set back up!

Have attacked old papers for the past couple of days. It’s wonderful to get rid of at least 75% of them, but what a dusty, time consuming job. And I’m not done yet. Books and shelves come next.

I'm reading Eat That Frog by Brian Tracy. What an inspiring book! No matter what it is you are wanting to tackle, this book will help you come up with an action plan and stir you into action! I'm finding myself excited and more determined to do get the things done. Only thing is the book wants you to pick just one thing to really concentrate on but I have two!! So, I'm using a notebook to help me work the things the accompanying workbook has you do (definitely get the workbook, so worth it!) so that I can work on both.

I have gotten a few more things sorted and have 1 grocery sack ready for donation. I will get the 5 or 6 boxes to donate out of the garage this weekend.

I am also going through my CDs and getting rid of a lot. I have 10 smaller CD storage boxes and my goal is to keep what I can fit into those. (I have a lot of local bands whose music is hard to find, even digitally.) I have some German language audio stories which I purchased when I thought I was going into teaching.

Flylady has a system that works excellently to clean and organize your home within one year. Small tasks are built upon small tasks and eventually you get to all areas. We have a flylady board here. The lady who started it suffered from severe depression and had a deep hole to dig out of. Very inspirational.

I don't have time to write it here, but I recently wrote a blog about the things I do to tackle dreaded tasks entitled, "Tricking Myself Into Being Motivated."

I got a few more things sorted through and a load to the thrift store. I also discovered my city is doing a fall secure shredding event on September 21st at the police stattion. I have a race that day on the other side of the cities so I will have to be prepared.

I can also bring some old appliances, computer stuff, and hazardous liquids (like paint and cleaners) to a county site a bit south of me. I could bring it to a city event but it's $25 a car load and I have a race that day. Moreover, it looks like I can drive a bit further and drop everything off for free or significantly less than $25.

I got a load to the Goodwill so that freed up space in my garage to get the stupid daybed back into the garage. I didn't want someone complaining.

I also found someone who can convert old VHS tapes to digital. I may do that with a few things I have.

I got another small box sorted. In the bottom, was a picture from my high school band. The box had gotten a tad squashed and wet; there was a bit of mold on an outside corner. The picture was in its original plastic cover and didn't get damaged! I was amazed.

I have taken a bit of a break with the clearing. I will start at it again this weekend. I have Thursday and Friday off and no races planned. I will take a load or two to the thrift store.

I had a guy ask what size the free daybed I have is and if it has a mattress. I said no to the mattress (of course); it actually hasn't had a mattress in years. I am sure my greedy ex pawned it or gave it away. The guy left the conversation with no further response.

I laughed to myself because mattresses are one of those things you shouldn't take off the curb. Critters like to call mattresses home and who knows what condition it's in...lol

I managed to get rid of the dresser that I tried to donate to the vets. I posted it for free on a local FB swap and shot. As for the rest of it, I may have to take my sister up on her offer to use her truck to get the remaining stuff to a local thrift store.

Almost no dreaded tasks have been tackled on the home front due to the 1st 3 days of classes, but I did request donations for our school's legacy auction so that is one more thing off the list. I hope to work on my own personal papers this weekend for at least an hour or so. Have a great weekend!

The VVA has trucks. I know they do. The driver didn't pick the pieces up and left a note: "no furniture" which is wrong. The lady on the phone said they take wicker pieces. The website says they take furniture. The driver is apparently too lazy.

I was going to call last night to let them know how upset I was but needed to cool off even more. I will not be using them ever again. They took the one nice piece and left the other items. Not okay.

I think that's why many charities ask if pieces can be delivered by the person donating them. They may just not have the people or truck to come by for a pick up even if the items are free. I've seen some wonderful end tables and chairs on the street. but couldn't take them home because I don't have a truck.

This week I'm planning on having another 2-3 bags of clothing ready for donation.

Still researching website/charities that need good business suits. One site said they only want suits that are less than 4 years old. I have suits older than that that I still wear for interviews. LOL I only buy suits that are classic cut and timeless.

Well, the vets only took 1 thing. I wasn't surprised they didn't take the daybed; it's big and heavy but I was surprised they only took the nice oak turning book case and not the coffee table, shelf, and dresser.

I called them and allegedly, they're sending a truck back today. I guess it's just 1 person but I managed to drag the stuff out of my garage on my own. And the oak piece was HEAVY. The coffee table and shelf are not heavy. I may pull the drawers out of the dresser to see if that helps.

A teacher friend is coming today to take a bunch of sheet protectors I freed up. Those will go to good use.

MLAN,

that's fantastic. I'm sure the vets will be able to re-use those pieces.

We're heading into back to school season for the local colleges. If someone is moving, they don't have to call someone to pick up their discarded furniture. All they have to do is put it out on the curb and the college kids will grab it for their apartments.

One set of students moving out, the next set moving in. Furniture changes hands like that all the time around here.

I'm really pleased to have been able to donate at least 6-7 bags of clothes this week. I actually do see a small dent in my closet ! I've been checking out places that will accept my good business suits for donation. I was reading one site that said they only want suits that are less than 4 years old. My suits are older than that. BUT I only buy classic cut suits. I'll check around. I would love to see these suits go to someone going back into the work force who needs a nice interview suit.

I got 5 pieces of furniture dragged out to my curb. I am hoping the vets will take at least some of it and hopefully all of it. That got a lot of space cleared out of my garage and will make getting it slightly more organized a lot easier.

I did a better job than expected on the dreaded task of sorting out the closet. I took another small bag with a couple of sweaters, old shirts and t shirts to the charity bin this morning. That's two this weekend.

And better, I took two bags full of clothes that were still in really good condition including two blazers, skirts, dressier shirts and some nearly new gym clothes.

I have a couple of good dress pants suits. I need to look online. I remember watching a news report about a charity that was looking for business suits for women going on interviews who couldn't afford interview suits. I've got at least two that don't fit that I'd love to donate.

I still have a long way to go, but this has been a great start !

Archimedes, sometimes I am afraid if I take a day completely off, I may not return for months. I did take off yesterday and Friday, though. Friday was just too busy, and yesterday, I worked a lot on the PD course - I needed to get to the point where I knew how to enroll students since they start on Wednesday. What I may do on tough days is deal with 10 papers - just so I do not quit completely.

Great work on the closet!

Being wise with time is not always easy, but at back-to-school time, I either need to be tackling something or genuinely resting. :-)
