I know people who've had surgery and done GREAT. They know that it's NOT a quick fix. You still have to be really strict (even more so, IMHO) with your intake.

Keep in mind that you will be eating WAY less, so what you do eat really needs to be nutrient dense.

I know 2 people who had lap band surgery and didn't do well at all. I really didn't think they would because they have never put in the effort to make positive life changes of any kind.

Ask LOTS of questions and don't rush to a decision.

Good luck!

I can't comment about the surgery because I have never had it, but I DO know some who have and are really pleased that they did. They have all said you have to be prepared to work on your diet and habits because unless you do, you won't succeed.

I hope you don't mind but I had a little peek at your nutrition tracker. I note that you are frequently hovering around the 1000 calories, sometimes under by a fair bit. Are you entering all of your food and are you weighing it for accuracy? If not, I would suggest that you start that.

I would also ask your Dr for a referral to a Registered Dietitian (if you aren't seeing one already) because they are qualified to help ensure that you meet the various vitamin/minerals etc. that your body needs. You might find that you can do this without surgery.

I don't know if you are aware of Beth Donovan, aka INDYGIRL. Below are links to both pages. Read her many blogs. She has lost a TON of weight without surgery. She is a very motivational person:

I hope you get some answers to your questions. In the mean time, maybe you can start tracking your nutrition here and see what happens?

Has anyone out there had weight loss surgery?
Which procedure?
Are you glad you did it?
What advice do you have for someone thinking about it?

My left hip is shot and my right hip is not great. The ortho says he would feel better about surgery if I lost 100lbs. My general practitioner has given his OK for weight loss surgery. I am still in the checking it out phase.
