Yes, in tea (or I use honey). and brown sugar on my breakfast cereal. I also indulge in some baked goods, occasional ice cream, and add sugar into salad dressing for cabbage apple salads. The hummingbirds get most of what I buy though...LOL!

I do have sweets when I am on dialysis. It helps when my blood pressure drops. I make sure I don't have too many though. It's still sugar.

I do not add sugar to my food, and I carefully read the ingredients in packaged food to make sure they don't contain added sugar.

Three years ago I began a diet in which I eliminated all added sugar, simple processed starches, and alcohol. I also restricted fats to no more than 15-20% of my daily calories. I lost 70 lbs. fairly easily and really didn't feel deprived because I was able to eat pretty much all the vegetables and fruits I wanted, as well as lean protein (fish, tofu, veggie burgers; I am allergic to red meat.)

About 6 months ago, my job became extremely stressful. The extra responsibilities and long hours gave me little time to work out, and I found myself giving into junk food cravings for sugary snacks. Sure enough, the weight crept back on: 20 POUNDS!!

So I've resolved now to banish them from my diet for good.

The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Meghan, maybe this thread is a test to see if people know that fruits and vegetables are carbohydrates, which are sugars...

I did a "no added sugar (fake or real added sugar)" (so only fruits/veggies/meats pretty much) for over a month to break my sugar addiction some. It helped a LOT. Then I started having tiny bits of things with added sugar. I did okay for a couple weeks but then it was a birthday and I had cheesecake - ugh. My undoing. So now I have to break the cycle again. It is so much harder for me to have little bits of added sugar than to just tell myself none at all. I am 3 months in now and doing better with managing it finally. I can tell myself to eat a little something once in a blue moon (my Mediterranean diet book recommends following the diet 90/10 so only having a sweet every month to two months). For me, this has worked well because the more I have of them, the more I crave them. It's a struggle for sure!

@LUANN_IN_PA I have actually had the same thought. People don't seem to think about the naturally occurring sugar in things like dairy products, fruits, and vegetables.

I bet those who are saying 'no' DO consume sugar. I find it hard to believe that they avoids all fruits and vegetables!

We do not buy processes foods, drink our tea unsweetened, no soda, we do have a beer or glass of wine periodically, and hubby makes ice cream periodically, all is planned into menu. Most sugar we consume comes natural in our food

I sure do!

I enjoy a tsp of sugar in my first coffee of the day (pure indulgence), use sugar when needed for texture / structure / chemical response in baking (lemon curd just doesn't "curd" without sugar - but I use 1/4 or less than most recipes), add maple syrup or honey to occasional recipes for the flavour (small amounts), and add blackstrap molasses to my baked recipes (for the flavour and the iron).

All told, I average less than 16g of added sugars per day - even with days when I enjoy ice cream and baked goods. Most days the 4g in my coffee and the 5g of blackstrap in my breakfast are the only added sugars.

I also enjoy a wide variety of fruits and berries and vegetables and dairy, so I the "natural" sugars add up too. I don't worry about it at all, to be honest - I focus on nutrition and flavour and enjoyment and it seems to all work out.

Sir Terry Pratchett: "Science is not about building a body of known 'facts'. It is a method for asking awkward questions and subjecting them to a reality-check, thus avoiding the human tendency to believe whatever makes us feel good."

"The Inuit Paradox" ( discovermagazine.com/2004/oct/inuit-
paradox
): "...there are no essential foods—only essential nutrients. And humans can get those nutrients from diverse and eye-opening sources. "

I will occasionally have drinks with sugar in them. I do try not to drink added sugar that often. It's only when my Mom buys condensed sweetened milk by mistake that I'm tempted to make tea with it. That's not too often, because she seldom buys it, sometimes she will buy it by mistake. She tried to exchange it for evaporated milk but the market was closed due to the MCO. So we are stuck with it. My Mom has been tempted to make tea with it too! LOL!

I avoid added sugar as much as possible. Naturally occurring sugar is okay, it’s in things like yogurt, vegetables and fruits. But I do limit my sugary fruits (bananas, pineapple, grapes) for when I’m doing a lot of cycling.

If I’m baking something like banana muffins, no added sugar is required, bananas are sweet enough.

I eat sugar but 99% of it is in the form of my food, as in fruits, veggies, etc. I don't add sugar to things. When I have Rolled Oats, I use chopped dates for the sugar - it provides many nutrients, including fibre, where processed sugar only provides calories.

Luann is right. Natural sugar is found in fruits and vegetables. I eat those daily.

Sugar free isn't necessarily healthy. As I mentioned in your other post, sugar substitutes were removed from my diet earlier this year and I feel a lot better. Plus, the sugar cravings stopped almost immediately.

If I want dessert, I will eat a dessert.

" Do You Consume Sugar? "
Of course, daily in fact, as it is in fruits and vegetables.

I attempt to always be sugar-free. Occasionally, I allow myself a New York Egg Cream, which contains some chocolate syrup. How about you?
