Sorry to have been MIA for a while. I did hit a bit of depression last month. 6 people that I knew very well passed away. ! graduated with him and did all our senior years together, 2 my neighbor across the street, 3 a girlfriend for childhood, 4 a lady friend of my parents - such a sweet woman, 5 my friend's husband, 6 an uncle - my Dad's 2nd wife's brother. Being of all the health problems that I myself have, it got me scared as some were my age or younger! Well I'm here and have to live it up not sitting around dwelling of can happen tomorrow or in 10 years or more from now, I want to live with no regrets and be the best I can be....

Happy to report a burst of energy; took advantage of it and did a lot of much needed housework - like washing windows and mirrors, and more.

OMG BP is now up to 139/61 and pulse 52This is the best! 61? Haven't seen that in the longest time! So excited. That's why I feel the energy to move. I had stopped taking my BP for a bit as I Knew it was low by my energy level which was very low but the last few days felt so much better. Sorry for rambling on but so excited. And yes the swelling is back, even my face, my eyes are nearly shut and my feet overflow my shoes Now it's to get that under control and I'll be just as good as new - I wish - LOL

MOMTOLJ, BP issues can also cause depression symptoms. I'm so sorry to hear you are having a rough go- hopefully your doc can help you. Try to stay positive, and just keep working on those baby steps.

I came here to this board looking for help myself- the advice I just gave is something I'm trying to do, too. We can do it together!

Sorry to hear that. I can surely understand where you are with your emotions. Spark People has some great articles on depression and on motivation. I have found these very helpful as I suffer from major depressive disorder. I will say a prayer for you if you would like.

I want to let you know that we got the trailer hitch fixed and will be leaving for Northern Michigan tomorrow. I may or may not have internet access. We will be gone for 10 days.

Take care of yourself. We will do this.

Oh no! And camping is so much fun! Use to do lots of it up to 6 years ago.
We did all of Canada and then many states as we came back in the US side We even cut across to visit Mount Rushmore and it's little shops. Now we just do day trips around here as my health is kind of frail at the moment.

I hope you can go soon as summers are short - here anyway

So happy that you got an answer. Hope that readjusting your meds helps.

We were supposed to leave to go camping today but we are having trouble with the camper hitch and can't get in until Monday to have it looked at. It's a bummer but I'll just find things to do at home.

Hang in there and be patient with yourself while the doc figures out what you need to continue on your weight loss journey.

I went to see the doctor yesterday. Explained about how I felt and sudden weight gin - 6 pounds in less than 2 weeks. Wiping dishes would have me sweat profusely, falling asleep on my chair, literally dragging feet from low energy etc. You were right. Low BP = low metabolism therefore, not burning calories, wiping dishes is an exercise for me she said as my metabolism is so low that I'd break in a sweat like I'd run a mile. Who would have thought???? So, she did cut one of my pills in half as it did lower my BP. It has other repercussions for my heart she said s she said both are two evils and one is no better than the next. Have blood work in ealy August and an appointment to see results a week after

WOW sounds like you had a nice fun time and Great about the loss in pounds! emoticon and emoticon

I did put on another pound and saw a professional this morning. He said that with my BP being so low all my metabolism is at a slower pace and affects weight loss/gain. I'm seeing my doctor again Wednesday and he wants me to address my BP with her as well as it affecting my energy level which is at a all time low lately. It's like I'm swimming against the currant and not making any headway....

Sorry about your weight gain. I think you are right to stay dedicated to what you are doing and to shoot for 5 lb. a month. Have you considered seeing your doctor about your slow weight loss?

We had a wonderful time with family at Grand Lake, near Alpena MI. The sun was out and it was hot. We all went to the sandy bay area to play and swim. I was worry about my lack of control with the eating and a lot of sitting around but I came home with a loss.

I was upset about the weight gain but on another tread it was suggested that with my BP having been so low, my metabolism was also affected. So I'm being very dedicated to losing and be at 214 by July 31rst. 5 pounds a month is my goal and now with the increase have more to lose... emoticon We'll do this yet!!!

Did you have a nice holiday

Happy Canada Day to you. Glad you had a nice dinner out with your husband. That's important too. You just have to make good choices at the restaurant. I find it helps me to look up the restaurant menu on my computer ahead of time and make my choices from there.

Enjoy your week.

MOMPOIRIER: You are doing so well! Yesterday, DH treated me to a dinner at Swiss Chalet It was delicious but the scale was up to 220 this morning. Now I have to work harder to lose that extra pound on top of the 5. It's ok. Life still goes on and I don't want to merely exist just as long as it's not the rule. In my binder, I started at 220. emoticon
You had a nice day - nice to relax and just do fun things on the Lord's day, After mass we went out for our Sunday drive - a ritual for Sundays that we do on summer days. After an nearly dinner, I watched 2 movies on Netflix; Concussion and Little Rosie. The first was story and real good.

Canada Day marks the first day of the month. So here goes with new monthly plan. Happy to be on target so far and even ahead as my weigh-in, since I started is on the 14th so still have that many days for 3 months and have lost my 5 lbs a month so far.

Together we can do this, Thank you for the support MOMPOIRIER

I've never been in that part of Canada. I hear it is beautiful. We are able to get an enhanced driver's license to travel to Canada, we don't have to get a passport if we have that.

Today is going well with eating and exercise. Walked my 15 min this am and did my back exercises this afternoon. I plan to go to the pool at the gym tomorrow for more of my back exercise and water walking.

I'm glad you found the therapist helpful also.

I also saw a therapist and I found it to be helpful.

Just finished a dinner of meatloaf, rice and carrots. Carrots always send me over on my Vitamin A but I love them anyways.

Saw the nutritional therapist for the first time today. I think it will be a big help for me in conquering my binges.

We too have had a beautiful day again today. Loved being outside. I live in Michigan, how about you?

Very interesting information. I am a slow eater, just helps me to know better when I am full.

Weighed in this am. Loss 3.4 lbs this week. I am definitely happy with that but especially because I know that I am living healthier.

Hope you have a wonderful Sunday. We are celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary today. We'll be going out to eat, so I'll have some choices to make.

Happy to hear your doing better. I do agree; WE WILL GET THERE!!!

Today I read about food and their preservative. Somehow it made sense to me.
It can be the cause of A) heartburn or indigestion, B) many trips to the bathroom or most often C) constipation.
Preservatives do what it says - preserve. Therefore harder to digest our food because they are conditioned to be preserved. This is why it's very important to chew our food very well before swallowing so our stomach can process it without hardship if at all if we don't chew enough
Just thought I'd share this bit of information with you all. I find it very intersting

MOMPOIRIER: So sorry you're injection is causing you side effects! You're doing good to listen to your body and take it easy for as long as it takes. I don't think it would be wise to do otherwise when you're numb the lower part of your body.

Today I did some strength exercises and bike I'll likely try to fit in walking a bit too. Being mindful of my menu too for the day. Tomorrow is my weigh-in official day being it's Sunday. I do weigh myself daily too but don't track on ticker but on Sundays - lol

MOMTOLJ have been weighing in most days because it gives me a better idea of how what I'm eating affects my weight. Such as I found fattoush salad tends to increase my weight. I think it's the salty feta cheese but I love fattoush.

This morning I'm just back from my epidural injection. My entire butt, legs and feet are numb (like when you get novocaine at the dentist) so I don't think I'll be doing much for awhile other than my cross stitching.

MOMPOIRIER; Awesome and thanks for sharing what you do to get there! Can't wait to see where your ticker will be next weigh-in. What day do you change your ticker? For me it's Sunday and then the 1rst of the month early morning when I get up to see how much I'll lose in a month.... You have a nice loss already WOOHOO!

Weigh-in today to see what to expect Sunday. Well I'm up .5 pounds from last Sunday. I had a loss until yesterday The next 2 days I'll be extra careful and plan balanced meals with fruits and veggies and fish today for sure. So by Sunday hopefully I'll be the same. Drinking water too. Filled my 4 cup goblet.

This morning unpacked, cleaned living room and dining room and now will do some quilting on my lap quilt. It raining hard out so will exercise in

Hi Gals, So today has done better with my eating. I'm just above 1200. My exercise has been more limited, but I did get in my 15 min, walk and am up to 5100 steps on my pedometer. (It helps keep me motivated). I wanted to share with you a thought from Winnie-the-Pooh that a friend sent to me:" To get where I am going, I walk away from where I have been". Isn't that a good one for us? Tomorrow will be different for me as I am going for epidural injections in the morning and usually have to take it easy for the day. Keep on taking those baby steps, one at a time.

AUDREYINSPIRED Of course we would love for you to join us on our journey. We want to eat healthy and exercise an as a result, lose some weight. Losing fast is not the objective but if you do, fine. Our health is important. This is why we don't diet - but eat healthy, and ease in to exercise so not to arm ourselves and increase as it gets easier. Drinking water is also important...So we are helping each other by sharing our progress or step back sometimes .

MOMPOIRIER: Good job on the windows! You did so much better with your meals than I did.

This morning my DH made breakfast while I got our stuff ready for a trip to Bathurst to celebrate DGD graduation. Well needless to say when I tracked my meals the calories were over the range 1200-1500. So no snack or nothing else for me today. And tomorrow is a new day and of course a new beginning. I don't do this often but it's ok to fall of as long as it's not every day Right?

Hi, ladies. I really enjoy your posts. Thanks for all the check-ins. Would it be ok if I join your thread? I may not post every day, but I'd like to chime in once in awhile sometimes, or daily sometimes. :)

Good things come to those who....work!

Six months from now, you'll be glad you started today. Focus on the 24 hours in front of you.

My husband and I worked on some of our windows all afternoon. He fixed the 30 yr old mechanisms so we could raise and lower the windows. I cleaned the windows and the curtains. We were so busy I didn't take much time to eat and had salads for lunch and dinner so I'm only at 915 calories right now. There was a time when i would have used it as an excuse to eat whatever but I'm really not hungry. I did my walking this am. I hope to make it to the pool tomorrow.

MOMPOITIER: Today I worked on my lap quilt. Want it done before I start the queen size quilt for my grand-son.

You come from a large family; how nice! Lost ten siblings - the oldest at 4 months old. In my days penicillin. I only have two sisters left.
How nice of you to make these projects for your siblings. It should be a keeper for them

My Dad was the same as me. One of his kidneys turn like oatmeal and the other one was crumbling so he eventually passed. I'm drinking a lot of water and hope it helps....

I'm close to 1200 calories today. I did 31 minutes of exercises. My goal is to at least be 220 by the 30th. Seems harder to lose now.

Yes that is my family name but I don't speak French. I took Latin in High School.I understand that Poirier is a popular name in Canada.

I too have several projects going right now. I am cross stitching a piece with birds, flowers and "Be Joyful" on it. I intend to make it into a pillow. I am doing one for each of my 5 sisters. I just finished my cross stitch projects for each of my 5 brothers. I too am working on a lap quilt. Quilting is something that I am just getting into. Also I am knotting some new dishcloths for myself.

Sorry to hear the news about your kidneys. It's too bad that they can't take you off your meds. I had my kidneys go down to 50% function a couple years ago but thankfully they were able to take me off the med causing the problem. I hope things work out for you.

MOMPOIRIER: I gather your family name is Poirier. Do you speak French? I do. I know some Poirier in my province of New Brunswick.

I love to knit, quilt, crochet, embroidery, sew too. Do you have any projects going on at this time? I have a scarf on needles, a quilt for my grand-son that I hope to finish for November and a lap quilt that only needs a bit of quilting done to hae it finished. I also love to read and bowl. My life will be to short to accomplish all I want to do LOL

Went to the doctor yesterday as she called me after my blood work last week. As I thought, my med for my thyroid gland are to strong and had to be readjusted. The shocker news is that my kidneys are to dry. But again because of my bad heart they can't take me off the meds causing the problem. Ask which of the two evil was worse heart versus kidney? Have to take my med was the only answer I got.

I hope you have a lovely day

MOMTOLJ Good morning.

I think I loss as much as I did because I'm just getting started. I always seem to lose more that first couple weeks. I'll take my measurements once a month. I haven't calculating my BMI in awhile, Not sure what BMR is but I'll look it up.

I tend to set my goals in my head although I do keep a folder for articles that are informational or encouraging.

I like your idea of craft item for a reward. I like to sew, cross stitch and knit.

I did not know that about the knees. Amazingly, my knees don't bother me so much, just my degenerating back with sciatica.

Have a wonderful day.

MOMPOIRIER Hi. That's a great lost! My goal is to lose 5 pounds a month. This month I haven't lost weight but since April 14th I have lost 4 inches. so that's ok too. There are many ways to see results Did you measure your BMI and BMR?

I also like SMART goal setting; S - specific, M -measurable, A - achievable, R - relevant and T - time-bound

I have a binder that I have made up of loose leaf and I love to enter thing that are relevant and don't want to forget. I have my progress at a glance and medical references too. A grill a week to track anything quickly like my water intake as I go through the day, Exercise minutes as I fit them in my day like 4 min stationary bike, walked 9 min etc and then at the end of the day I track my fitness in tracker. Reading the daily nutritional report every day to make sure I get all my nutrients

I set new goals and change them a lot - sometime every week. No dull moment -lol

I reward myself for goals reached with anything from clothes to a good book or something for my crafts instead of food.

I'm determined to do this because my health is important. Did you know that a pound lost id equal to 7 pounds of your knee joints?

Hi to MOMTOLJ.
Happy Father's Day to your Dads also.

I'm happy for you that the scale is moving.

Today is my weigh in day and I loss 3 lbs. I signed up for the premium coaching trial. It has helped me a lot so I will con't with it. I set some fast break goals and am concentrating on losing 5 lbs at a time. Since I started June 1st I have loss 6 lbs. I am sure to track all my food and activities, this helps you be accountable to yourself. My activities are limited because of my back but I do what I can.

Communicating with other is helping also. Together we can do it.

Happy Father's Day to the Dad's in your life!

This morning was weigh=in for the week for me and I'm down to 223 so I'm happy about that. The inches lost were a total surprise to me so DH was right when he was saying my tummy went down and clothes look a better fit.

I did set my SMART goals again for the week and figure I'll reach my goal weight by August 31, 2020. - long term. Working on reaching 180 by December 31,2019.
Had a set back this month in lbs but great in inches... But the scale is moving again. Concentration on more water (neglected this the past week) and on nutritional report to get all nutrients needed.

Thank you MOMPOIRIER! I see we are both at same weight and have mostly the same goal. Did you set any mini-goals? How do you plan to achieve your goal? You may have a better plan than me, that's why I'm asking. Determined to get there! LOL. We can do this, together! Baby stepping away

The scale told me carrot cake is not worth it. Disappointed with myself in a sense but then it was good and there is no more. Starting a new week with my new food guide. Should be interesting. I also changed my "other goals" Having a lot of problem sleeping - only 3 hours last night and being generous!

Went to several yard sales this morning with my sister and found a few treasures; a lovely covered lined peck with cover for my yarn at 3$ and two Danielle Steele books 50cents each are just a few of my findings

I should learn to log my meals before eating! I had a piece of Costco carrot cake that took nearly half of my calorie intake today! Shish! Good thing I was careful every where else. I'm 39 calories from being over No miracle weigh-in expected tomorrow morning... just maintenance if that!

Like I said this week sees an increase in weight for me. I'm up to 223.8. I know I did some exercise but had to much sitting time to burn all the calories of the week. I'm getting a little better but still use my walker to take my walk, weather permitting... rain again today.

I'll change my ticker Sunday like usual....

Went to a dietician class this morning. The new Canada Food guide - Eat Well. Live Well. Loved it. Learned so much and tasted a new recipe - Cuban style rice and black beans - prepared in little time and delicious! Haas all kinds of needed nutrients in it. Motivated more than ever to eat better, at home, at the table. Tape guide to fridge.

Beautiful blue sky and sunny day! We're going to Centennial Park this afternoon and will take a walk around the pond. There are benches to sit and picnic tables too so will have lunch .

Today would be my grand-son's 31rst birthday. Miss him so much! I wish my DD lived closer as I know how difficult a day it is for her... Prayers for both emoticon

Before taking the shuttle, I got a call from the hospital to go for a test for my legs before meeting the specialist. Shish that was sore!!! I had tears rolling down and moaning too. Told the they were nice ladies but hope I never had to take that test again, The results is my arteries are looking good but not the veins so I'll get a prescription from the specialist when I get my appointment, so they said. They also said I'll have a bad leg day tomorrow- more pain!

I had purchased 2 smaller diner plates a few weeks ago. Today I purchased one-cup nappies for dessert and smaller bowls than what we now eat soup and cereal in. Downsizing our portion feels like we're not eating with large bowls and smaller portion. Love my new dishes.

DGD called and I called DGS today - just nice checking in and hear about there news.

The scale is telling me that I'm getting closer to my monthly goal. Only 2 more days left. for the end of May.

I had a nice walk and it was so nice out for a change yesterday. Today is sunny and cloudy... wonder if we'll get showers....

This afternoon we go bowling with a bunch of friends and both DH and I are looking forward to it.

I slept well last night - finally! So shower time and get dinner ready for when we get back.

Today is a bright sunny day. I'll walk to the clinic. I have very low energy lately. I'm really dragging my feet???? Maybe a walk will stimulate me. I do exercise every day but inside as we had poor weather,,,,

I had turkey for lunch and pork steak for dinner, It's to much calories for me to lose any despite the exercise which was only 26 minutes yesterday. I must do my 30 minutes today.

will see how the day goes...

I read about BMI and a healthy number is between 18.5 and 25.so I have work to do but I'll achieve this.

My computer is a great tool. Ask anything you want and it has the answer. It's for me to design my own program with the tools I have. Whatever works, right?

My first step was to write down why I had to lose weight, what my healthy weight should be and what I was ready to do to achieve my goal.

My BMR is 1605.55. my BMI is 37.44, Obesity class 2!

BMI is between 35-39.99 (Obese Class 2)
If you have a BMI of 35-39.99 your risk of weight-related health problems and even death, is severe. See your doctor and reduce your weight to a lower BMI.

This is enough to ensure that I keep losing weight. Eating healthy and exercise is a must for me!

Well here it's a beautiful sunny day too. DH and I went for a long walk on Main Street and stopped at Tim Horton's for a coffee break - one coffee/ 2 cups. I needed to stop for my knee pain but in minutes I could do more, We stopped at the market talking to a friend from our building and then made it home. I think I'll sit on our veranda and quilt on a lap quilt I'm nearly done.
Tomorrow is my official weigh-in on Sunday's I believe it will be lower than Friday.... We'll see

Well I just got back from my 6 month evaluation and I have overall improved but for my weight. I'm not worried as I'm faithful in my calorie intake. She's sending me to a dietician so I can learn stuff like what to eat to be in my range in fiber, potassium, folate, calcium vitamin D ext. That should be interesting. I also put in my 200 minutes a week in exercise cardio and strength combine.

weigh-in 227.0 An increase but that's ok. Next week I hope to see better results.

Tonight my sister and I are going to play Bingo. Haven't done that in over a year for sure so we are both looking forward to a fun evening

Yesterday I drank 7 glasses of water WooHoo! Ate within calorie range, went bowling and did some stationary biking

This morning I went shopping; got us each 2 pairs of shorts for him and knee knockers for me. So excited about losing the weight; this is our way to reward ourselves instead of restaurants like before.

So much to be grateful for that it's hard to contain all the excitement emoticon

Yesterday, I ate my larger meal at dinner instead of at lunch and the scale reflected an increase in weight. I was under my calorie goal and drank 48 onces of water. So today, I'll eat my larger meal at lunch again and watch my calorie intake at dinner. we'll see how that works out....

Had a great date night with DH last night. The only thing is that we came home and had a snack, something I normally don't do...

This week I plan to: 1; keep drinking my 40 ounces of water. 2; eat healthy, 3; exercise at least 10 minutes a day, 4; finish my 28 day program.

Didn't exercise yesterday but will for sure this afternoon. Yesterday was a busy; took the shuttle at 9;30 and did groceries, shopped for great-grand-niece B'Day present, got home at noon, put away groceries and went for a hair cut. Got home made dinner and sat to watch my program , then up to shower, get ready and out the door at 3;45 for our Banquet. Got home it was 7;55.

After being on the go all day it was nice to sit and just make the sketch for grand-son's quilt, colors and how much fabric for each color. I'll go shopping Tuesday next week for the fabric....

Yesterday, I didn't do exercise per say bur worked around the house in the morning - even took the swing set out - and went shopping in the afternoon.

I did lose again so I'm staying active and eating healthy. Happy with my results as I have reached my goal for the week as it is this morning!

OMG JABYRNE! You lost over 50 pounds! How long did it take you to do this? How did you achieve this? A lot f exercise, healthy eating combined? I'd be over the moon if I lost that much!

I'm happy this morning with my baby step; I lost .5 pounds this week so may achieve this weeks goal.

I drink more water than ever but not up to 8 glasses yet. From taking a gulp a day to easing up to 5 glasses is proof that baby steps works. Started with a glass a day and increased every week or second week - my measure is when I can drink say 3 glasses in the week without missing a day I would increase to 4. now I' at 5 and will see when I can increase to 6 ...

I like baby step because at least I achieve something without the pressure of doing it all at ounce. I also realize that my goals for the week are more ambitious. Instead of having my initial 3 a week I now have 6! Not huge but then again life changing for me

Moving right along, slow but sure!

Did my exercises - 34 minutes cardio

happy with my weight today as I'm at the same place as I was on Thursday; had my birthday and Mother's day, 2 restaurants, and was mindful of my choice except for the sweets at the buffet....

all the best intentions but when I got to the sweets side of the buffet, I blew it. Today is another day and my next birthday is next year - lol. Just saying that I'm not going to let one meal take me down and away from my ultimate goal. Back on track and I'll be having healthy food today.

I did get in my exercise yesterday and ate sensibly if not for the sweets.

I believe weighing-in every day keeps you accountable in some way. I work hard for the scale not to tip up. It stayed the same as yesterday and that\s ok. so far I have a nice loss for the week. I will as always record my weight on Sunday. I'm doing it - eating healthy and developing healthy habits on my way.

You are so smart to substitute like that! Walking shoes are so expensive too! I am on my 9th year here at SP and finally hit 75 loss this month! It has been slow, but that’s okay as it has stayed off along the way! I involve myself here at Spark as much as possible, challenges, sparkteams, cause my hubby has an eating disorder and he won’t spark with me, although he is trying harder to keep it healthy! I hope your journey gets better and better as you stay focused and work the plan! One goal at a time! emoticon

Today I ask DH to replace going to the restaurant for my birthday and put that money towards a pair of good walking shoes for the summer. we immediately went shopping and after many visits to shoe store I found a pair that I absolutely love with air pockets in the heels.

Happy to get something that will contribute to my weight loss and not be increased by a meal as a celebration - and accumulate calories. Making better choices is new to me and really proud of myself

On April 14th, I decided to tackle the bull by the horn once and for all. I've been obese since 1989. I reached 248 lbs last year and panicked so I lost a few pounds here and there but in April 2019 I was still 234 lbs.

So I decided to use the food tracker, to read the nutritional report daily, do 18o minutes of exercise a week. Also as for losing weight, I wanted to keep it realistic; took me a long time to put it on so not going to come off overnight, right?

My weigh-in day is Sunday.
My plan is to; drink 40 ounces of water - didn't drink more that a gulp before)
not to be over my calorie range
do some form of exercise 5 times a week
lose a pound and a half this week.
plan meals for the day early morning or the night before

I hope some of you will join me on this journey as I sure need all the help I can get! Welcome to you all and please share with me how you are achieving your goals
