I mostly work out at home but I do really miss my yoga studio. Yoga is one thing that I'm just not able to do on my own, I really need the guided practice of a live instructor and the atmosphere of the studio. I'm really looking forward to it reopening. Bringing my own mat and not using community props means very little chance of catching something from surfaces. I think they will need to limit the number of people in a class to maintain distance.

Months before the pandemic started, I had cancelled my Planet Fitness membership due to financial reasons. I have cardio equipment and weights at home, so working out is not the issue. But I will rejoin my local PF as soon as they reopen to show my support.

I am working out at home without any equipment and it helped me a lot to stay fit while at home.

@NITEMAN3D you are right. No access to a gym is a lame excuse indeed. I have been working out at home or starting from home (if I go walking or running) for a few years now. I have a good collection of dumbells, resistance bands, and yoga items. In addition to that, my DVD collection has grown to over 50 and most have multiple workouts on them.

I really don't understand the question.

I've never been a fan of gyms, thinking they are mostly for socializing, but this stuff going on right now really seals the deal for me. Using 'no gym' as an excuse to gain weight is just that... an excuse. The myriad of 'no equipment' routines available just by doing a web search kills that excuse right from the git-go.

Gym openings are state specific. Sparkpeople is a site that people from all over the world have access to. Your best bet will be to check with your gym or state's website.

I used to go to the gym and stopped going last week. Our governor closed all of our gyms starting yesterday, so even if I wanted to, I couldn't go. Thankfully we have a treadmill at home and I have Leslie Sansone videos.

I use home equipment rather than go to the gym.
I recommend the following options for a great workout:
1. Stability balls.
2. EZShaper.
3. Total Gym.

I prefer to workout at home and always have. No germs and no commute.

I started with body weight exercises over 20 years ago and have a good collection of free weights and kettlebells built up now. A couple yoga mats, pull up bar, and an exercise ball. I can run, walk and bike outside or do HIIT or intervals if the weather is crap.

I'll be working out at home. My gym is closed for the next two weeks. I've been hearing from other friends that their gyms are shutting down too.

I was looking forward to going to the gym to vent some of this coronavirus stress.

Will need to take two very long extended walks this weekend.

I definitely encourage you to wipe any and all equipment you use before and after your workout. This is good practice, coronavirus or not.

I also bring my own towel if I am at a gym versus wasting a lot of paper towels. I bought some hand towels years ago specifically for the gym.

I don't wear a sweatband and haven't brought a towel with me before. Don't sweat unless I'm doing intensive cardio. I'll be bringing a towel or use the paper towels they have at the gym when I do cardio.

I wipe the machines down after I use them. I plan to wipe before I use them now.
I never wiped things like stability balls, medicine balls, BOSU balls, dumbbells, kettlebells, barbells, bands or any of the cable cable cross machine attachments.
I guess I will now...

Do you not use sweatbands or your own towel?
Also, since you should wiping down the equipment before and after you use it, this really should not be a concern.

"1) wipe down equipment before and after each use with the disinfectant spray provided at our sanitation stations located throughout the gym floor
2) Wash hands frequently and thoroughly for at least 20 seconds with soap and water;
3) Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands:
4) Cough or sneeze into a tissue or your sleeve or arm - not into your hands. "

??
Really? The gym and the members have not been doing that all along?

All that should be common practice, coronavirus or not.

I had not been to the gym since the coronavirus outbreak came to America.

I keep hearing that those 60 or over have been advised not to be in public or crowded places.

I just got an email from the CEO of Planet Fitness. It stated the PF team members conduct regular and thorough cleaning of all equipment, surfaces, and areas of the club and gym floor using disinfectant cleaning supplies. In addition, they regularly complete overnight deep cleaning of the facility. It also said that we should:
1) wipe down equipment before and after each use with the disinfectant spray provided at our sanitation stations located throughout the gym floor
2) Wash hands frequently and thoroughly for at least 20 seconds with soap and water;
3) Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands:
4) Cough or sneeze into a tissue or your sleeve or arm - not into your hands.

At first it reassured me that it would be safe to come back.

Then I got to thinking...
I'm a pretty healthy 65 year-old with no respiratory or heart issues. Is it safe for me to go?

Second question I have is this: what do I do if I'm sweating and I want to wipe the sweat off my face, especially if my hands had contact with various pieces of equipment? I'm wondering if I should bring my own supply of sanitation wipes and carry it around with me to wipe everything down before and after I use that piece of equipment. I suppose if I had wiped down the treadmill and just washed my hands before going on the treadmill, I should be safe....

What do you all think?
