s been four months. Have you asked him to join you yet?
How is it going if you did?

I have a 2 and 5 year old and I was doing some push ups, planks, sit ups.. exercises like that and they joined in. They thought it was so much fun! I think its a great idea to include the kids. I think that habits are taught early and if taking care of yourself is a good habit I can instill, then so be it!

Just run for fun and see how far your child can run.

I took my 3 1/2 year old granddaughter for a half mile yesterday and she enjoyed it so we will be doing more longer walks then hopefully jogging before long.

I don't run due to my knees but my toddler (19 months) loves to dance so we do that. He sees indoor power walking as dancing so that's helpful!

I take him to the park so he can run. He loves being outside and is attentive to the sounds, birds, etc. I have to jog to keep up!

He loves to be active but never asked to join me in a run. When I go solo, I sometimes feel bad for the little ones who seem so tired...so I love your tips.
I think he'd enjoy it...he's 9.

Does he like to run?

Does he ask to go running with you?

Some kids his age would love the challenge 5k, even if they're tired at the end. The important thing is whether it's something *he* wants to do, and whether he's willing to put in the time and effort it takes to properly train.

If you do go down this path, make sure he has really good, properly fitted running shoes, preferably as minimalist as possible to allow his foot to grow and strengthen appropriately. Tell him to always tell you if something hurts, even if it's just hurting a little, or goes away with time.

And most importantly, have fun! The goal with kids and sports is:
1. for them to enjoy it enough to keep doing it;
2. for them to do it properly so they don't suffer chronic or repetitive injuries and can keep doing the sport for as long as they love it.

I have friends who were overtrained by parents and coaches as kids and teens, and are now in their early 20s with all kind of chronic injuries, and then I have friends who discovered a sport they loved, mixed it up with lots of other sports and activities, and are continuing to play/do for fun well into their 50s and 60s.

Take life one day at a time - enjoy today before you worry about tomorrow.

Don't wonder... ask him if he would like to join you!

Does anyone run with their kids?
I'm wondering if my 9yr old would like to do a 5k with me...I see many young ones trying it these days but they look so wiped out at the end.
