@ROSEBUD2451, I love sweet tea too, but no one can rival what my Grandma used to make :) With the same issue as you (drinking empty calories,) I have found diluting the tea a little at a time to be helpful.

There's a tea that I drink from a local restaurant by me that is infused with cinnamon and other things like dried orange peel. It's delicious, and you wouldn't know that it didn't have a sugar in it. Spice it up. Decrease your sugar little by little. I used to have sugar in my coffee. I dumped the sugar when I needed to lose weight. Now, I couldn't imagine drinking it with sugar in it. So, it can be done.

I like the idea of cutting sugar gradually. I did that with my coffee... was using just 5g of maple syrup but now I use a sprinkle of cinnamon.
Speaking of cinnamon, have you tried herbal teas? There's a really nice one called Bengal Spice which is awesome to have when you're in the mood for something sweet. There are others that have similar blends of cinnamon, vanilla, etc. which you might also try. They are good hot or cold.

You might try Truvia. It doesn't have that stevia taste, even though it has stevia in it. A Truvia packet equals 1 teaspoon of sugar in sweetness. I found this sweetener to be the most palatable of all the different sweeteners (other than plain sugar, of course). I don't know if you can cook/bake with it. I use Sucralose (Splenda) in a 3/4 Splenda to1/4 regular sugar combination to lower the sugar levels in my baked products. This gives the final product a true sugar flavor without all the damage of the real thing. I also make lemonade this way. To make a gallon of lemonade, put 2 cups fresh lemon juice, 1/2 cup sugar and 1 and 1/2 cups of Splenda. Stir until dissolved and then fill the gallon pitcher full with water and refrigerate. This makes, IMO, a highly sweetened very refreshing lemonade. I've gotten used to less sweetening now, so I make a 1/2 serving of lemonade less sweet by adding a 1/2 serving of water to my cup - and put a few fresh slices of lemon into the cup along with it. Yum!
Try finding a tea that is infused with fruit. I have found that flavored tea can be sweetened naturally when paired with fruit. For example, I love pomegranate green tea. It's got enough flavor and sweetness that I don't find myself needing to add anything. Raspberry black tea is another good one too!
I guess I am lucky. I don't like sugar in my tea and I am a big tea drinker. I think cutting down on the amount of sugar you use will help. Maybe you will be able to eliminate it altogether eventually.
Have you tried cutting the sugar in half as a starting point? After a few cups you might just adjust to liking that. For myself, I didn't care for artificial sweeteners either, so I went to using nothing in it--no sugar, honey or sweeteners. That was actually easier for me to get used to. But, everyone's taste buds are different so if you can't go without, my best advice is to reduce the amount of sugar and try to wean yourself off or down that way.

I can see by the numbers that the one thing that stops me from reaching my goal will be the amount of sugar I use in my tea, once in the morning and once after dinner. Of course, the easy answer is just don't drink it, but it is my only vice, sort of my comfort. I don't want to use aspartame instead because it is awful, Splenda is awful, stevia is worse, honey has as many calories if not more, and although it might be a bit healthier, it changes the taste of the tea too much. Any helpful hints?
