Best food discovery: For all the "breaddies": Try Nature's Own Sugar-Free Life 100% Whole Wheat.
Only 9 carbs, 4 protein, 1 fiber, NO sugar, and NO saturated fat per slice. I swear you will not miss the sugar. This IS real bread.

Another best food: Potato sliced into circles...spray foil w/non-stick butter spray or olive oil spray & place potato circles on foil...spray w/spray. Place in oven (I use my toaster-oven). Bake til browned or desired crispness. Do not cut too thin...not meant to be like potato chips. I don't even season mine. BTW...small, unpeeled white potatoes work the best.
Best Foods: Plain Nonfat Greek Yogurt...Balsamic vinegar...Goat Cheese...Nonfat Sour Cream. I like Balsamic vinegar on salads & add Lite Balsamic Salad dressing to it. The vinegar is good for you & it stretches the dressing. If I am making a shrimp salad or chicken salad sandwich, I use 1/2 nonfat sour cream & 1/2 lite mayonnaise. I always add green onions & celery to stretch it & give it crunch. I like crumbled up Goat Cheese on salads. It has far less sodium than Feta cheese.
Cinnamon with black coffee. Sounds crazy but a big win! Cinnamon is a huge power food with tons of health advantages. I try to get in 1 teaspoon per day while doing intermittent fasting to melt away stubborn stomach fat. Hope this helps. I love the support at this site and am looking forward to a healthy lifestyle!
I also found a pretty cool fat burning tea.

Although ice cream is not one of my vices, every once in a while, I do crave it a bit. My best food discovery - frozen bananas blended with a bit of coffee extract is totally satisfying and tastes remarkably like coffee ice cream, my favorite.
My worst food discovery - watermelon has calories that do add up. I can easily eat half a watermelon in one day. It's the reason I have to limit what I buy at one time - because what I buy is what I eat that same day.
@DAD_AINT_HIP Bread is one of my downfalls, for sure! When my nutritionist told me to cut it way back on bread, his solution, for say a ham sandwich, was to eliminate the bread. So what is that? Ham. lol I have found that I can cut back on the calories by either using a thin-sliced bread which can be anywhere from 50 - 80 calories, cutting my own thin slices from a whole loaf (takes a good sharp bread knife) or having an open-faced sandwich. Don't know if this is of any help to you, but I have not yet advanced the point, as you have, with being satisfied by lettuce wrap.
@URBANREDNEK Totally agree with you! Roasted veggies are the best! And, if you don't overload them with oil, they can be your ongoing snack for the day. Glad to find someone who loves them as much as I do.
Best - that restaurants will add a protein topper (chicken, fish, prawns) to a salad, so that means veggies and protein and no carbs for those of us who like to low carb
Worst - finding out that fruit juices, even the 100% pure ones without added sugar, are pretty much sugar bombs. I thought fruit juices were healthier than pop, they are only slightly healthier and they have too much sugar. A glass of juice takes many pieces of fruit, you wouldn't eat 5 apples at a time, a glass of juice takes about 5 apples to make plus juice instead of apples means you don't get the fiber.

Best food discovery: that when I choose to eat ice cream I am actually satisfied with 1/4-1/2 cup! (It also helps to serve that portion in a small dish!) Oh, and using monk fruit as an alternate to white sugar. I'll be sharing that info in my 5-Day Sugar Reset challenge next month.
Worst food discovery: Brussel Sprouts!!!!! And no, I don't care what how you prepare them, I still hate them.

best food discovery was that squeezing a lemon or lime over salad as dressing gave my salad a fresh light taste and allowed each item in the salad to taste too... you can actually taste the tomato, avocado, onion, peas, etc individually and they are not clouded out by the dresing and an added plus is the lemon or lime juice does not add calories to the salad

Best: low carb eating is not as hard as I believed it would be. Worst: I am finding cutting sugar to be the most difficult aspect of my journey.

Isn't jackfruit the best? I needed a vegan substitute for some attendees at my kid's grad party. I found a recipe using young green jackfruit for a pulled pork like dish. It was delicious - some of the meat eaters took it by mistake, lol!!

Best: it's a tie between raw bok choi in salads (super sweet) and raw parsnips blended in smoothies. They are also super sweet and, unlike carrots, blend to a perfectly smooth consistency in my high speed blender. I was 48 years old before I knew one could eat bok choi raw!!
Worst: rutabagas followed closely by kohlrabi. And eggplant. Cannot stand them. But that's pretty much the entire list of veggies I can't stand. I really like all the rest.
Best food discovery: That healthy good carbs provide provide energy plus vitamins, minerals and fiber and should be half of my plate (supplemented by vegetables and legumes).
Worst food discovery: Well, I knew saturated fat was bad for my arteries and heart, but that oils are processed foods devoid of the nutrients in their original form and are just as bad. "The fat you eat is the fat you wear" is what I learned from Dr. McDougall and others. No strokes for me!

Best Food Discovery: How much food you can eat when focusing on making smart food choices most of the time. If I am eating a lot of fruits, vegetables, lean protein, and healthy fats, my macronutrients and micronutrients fall into place and I feel so good.
Worst Food Discovery: Sweet potatoes/Yams are still nasty in most instance in my opinion. If I want to treat myself to fries, I want some from a plain old potato; my Irish heritage demands it...lol.
BEST FOOD DISCOVERY: Like spaghetti squash, zoodles (noodles made with zucchini) are a fabulous alternative to pasta. I seriously don't miss the so-called "real thing" at all. I agree with the previous post: the crunch is wonderful and the zoodles are delicious!
WORST FOOD DISCOVERY: measuring spoons, LOL. I had no idea, for example, how much cream I was putting in my coffee. Measuring my cream as I add it has been a sad but eye-opening experience.
Worst discovery: Many granola bars, especially the chewy ones, are loaded with corn syrup or sugar plus fat and calories (trail mix is better, in small amounts.) Replacing real meals with those all day in an effort to be "healthy" was a huge mistake!
Best discovery: SMOKED JACKFRUIT! I just tried it for the first time yesterday. It's a kind of fruit, but it tastes and feels a whole lot like meat. Unbelievable. Satisfying, too, but without the high calories, sugar, saturated fat, or cholesterol! 6 grams of fiber, plus protein, calcium, and only 90 calories per serving. (The sodium is 310 mg, 13% DV, so that would be a consideration for anyone strictly limiting sodium.)

WORST food discovery - a medium sized pumpkin muffin has 600+ calories. Before I started my quest for a healthy lifestyle, I would typically eat a muffin as a mid morning or afternoon snack. Some times I would eat a huge slice of coffee cake or scone. Those clocked in at 800-1000 calories each. I had no idea baked goods were so high in calorie. No wonder I was morbidly obese.
BEST food discovery - Siggi's Icelandic Skyr, love the madagascar vanilla and cinnamon flavor. only 110 calories and 9 grams of sugar.
My "worst" discovery was not only that food and drink contain calories, but that they actually do apply to me
Honestly, my "worst" realization was just how many calories I was "wasting" every day on foods that I didn't particularly care for, but was eating purely because they were part of "normal" meals served among my clan. I've never been a big fan of potatoes or rice or pasta (they are okay, but not something I would ever go out of my way for), and was appalled at just how many calories of them I was consuming purely because our "normal" meals had always contained a starch.
My "best" discovery was that roasting vegetables makes everything - even old favourites - even better. All it takes is a tsp or so of olive oil, a sprinkle of coarse salt, and some oven (or grill) time, and the result is almost guaranteed to be something that I'll love. Even vegetables that I had grown up seriously disliking have ended up as favourites when I roast them.
Sir Terry Pratchett: "Science is not about building a body of known 'facts'. It is a method for asking awkward questions and subjecting them to a reality-check, thus avoiding the human tendency to believe whatever makes us feel good."
What was everyone’s best and worst food discovery?
My worst (or at least one of them) was sandwiches. With two slices of bread at 110 calories per slice, even a healthy sandwich will be at least 400 calories. And that’s without the stuff that can make it yummy (like a good cheese, or light mayo, etc). I’ve learned to tolerate lettuce wraps. lol
Best discovery? Zoodles! I love zucchini anyway but the noodles hold up well to a quick sauté, takes a minute to send two of them through a spiralizer, and only 44 calories per cup, you can get a huge helping of veggies.
