Thanks for the link, NIRERIN. It looks promising.

I thought that SP used USDA for its listings and, once again, went to USDA this a.m. The site has been changed and, even though I entered my ingreds as instructed, they gave me a few not-quite-right things and loads of irrelevant things. Example, I was looking for a chicken specific and followed the instruction to narrow the results. Neverthless, I was given goat, shrimp, potatoes and whatall else.

Yes, using members' entries is a gamble. There is no way to know how another person interprets what they read or what they sought to begin with.

Again, thank you.

Sparkpeople's data comes from the USDA database. Member entries usually have the username beside them.
nutritiondata.self.com is the most user friendly version of the USDA info I have found. It also clearly spells out what is and isn't included, which is helpful if you don't realize that scrambled eggs are a multi-ingredient dish and not just the action of taking a fork to a raw egg.

-google first. ask questions later.

Where did the numbers in the SP-provided database come from? I might like to refer to it myself for things that SP didn't pick up.

Often I have to enter foods myself because they aren't included or the data entered by SP members is wildly inaccurate or, for my preferences, incomplete. Example: 3 members enter "chicken, boiled, no skin" and all three give numbers that are way different from the others.

The USDA nutrient database gets more and more difficult to use. CalorieKing.com often doesn't list things close enough to what I want to enter.

Tracking keeps getting more difficult and I'd love some sane info on where to find the data I need.

(I've also entered this in the Site-Tech Help board, as I was unsure where to go with it.)
