I had a congenital defect that became obvious when I was 10. The valve was not closing properly and was leaking.

Welcome to the team! 20 years!! Oh, I really hope mine lasts at least that long! I take 7.5 mg/day warfarin. I generally don't have many problems with bruising.

So you were pretty young when you got your valve replaced. May I ask what caused it? Mine was a severe blood infection that destroyed my aortic and damaged my tricuspid (which was repairable).

This is a pretty slow moving team, but you can always find support here.

Hi everybody,

I've been searching the sparkteams, and here's what I'm looking for!

Like MOM TO JASMINE I have an artificial aortic valve. It's more than 20 years old now but working perfectly.

How do I know for sure? It saw the light of day again in 2005 when I had emergency surgery on an upper aortic aneurysm caused by a dissection.

In any case, to get my INR between 3 and 3.5, I take a fair bit of warfarin, alternating 10 and 12 mg...usually more in the summer when I eat more green veg. (It's a double-edged sword really - green veg are so good for you, yet add clotting factor!)

I'm wondering if there are more members with artificial valves? Also, everyone, do you find your bruising gets in the way of your activity (or is it just that I'm naturally clumsy emoticon

Thanks
